The Mechanism of the Cathodic Hydrogen Evolution Reaction

Journal of The Electrochemical Society, 1952
Some of the outstanding problems of concept and mechanism in the field of cathodic hydrogen evolution kinetics are discussed and clarified. A full derivation and correlation of kinetic equations which assume no mechanism reveals expressions for several parameters which take values specific to one or more mechanisms.

Trajectory Approach to the Hydrogen Evolution Reaction

Physica Scripta, 1983
A classical trajectory analysis for the discharge reaction step in the hydrogen evolution reaction is presented. The construction of an adiabatic potential energy surface is discussed with emphasis on the solvent motion and the charge transfer process.

Proton Tunneling in the Hydrogen-Evolution Reaction

The Journal of Chemical Physics, 1966
The quantum-mechanical theory of tunneling was applied to the proton-discharge step of the hydrogen-evolution reaction. An unsymmetric Eckart barrier with allowance for zero-point energies was employed. The quantum-mechanical rate iq was calculated by integration with a digital computer for a large number of combinations of barrier width, barrier ...

Design of Magnetoelectrocatalysts for the Hydrogen Evolution Reaction

ECS Meeting Abstracts, 2018
Recent evidence highlights a magnetic effect on electron transfer processes for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) [1]. To further evaluate these observations from Trasatti’s data, studies of various diamagnetic electrodes under magnetic modification were undertaken.

Mechanism and kinetics of the hydrogen evolution reaction

International Journal of Hydrogen Energy, 2019
Abstract Hydrogen evolution reaction, HER, is the simplest electrocatalytic reaction. With development of renewable energy sources electrolytic production of hydrogen becomes an alternative way of hydrogen production for internal combustion engines and fuel cells. HER proceeds through the Volmer, Heyrovsky and Tafel reaction mechanism.

Advanced electrocatalysts for hydrogen evolution reaction

2019
Hydrogen is a clean energy carrier that has all criteria considered for an alternative energy source. One of promising ways to store intermittent and renewable energy sources is producing hydrogen by water splitting. One of the main issues in water splitting is the requirement of highly cost electrocatalysts such as Pt for hydrogen evolution reaction ...
