Magnetic refrigerator for hydrogen liquefaction

open access: yesJournal of Physics: Conference Series, 2009
Magnetic refrigeration which is based on the magnetocaloric effect of solids has the potential to achieve high thermal efficiency for hydrogen liquefaction. We have been developing a magnetic refrigerator for hydrogen liquefaction which cools down hydrogen gas from liquid natural gas temperature and liquefies at 20 K.

Efficient Hydrogen Liquefaction Processes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The problem is that today every H2 liquefaction plant has low exergy efficiency of just between 20–30%. It is based on the pre-cooled Claude system, which is still the same as 50 years ago with littleimprovement. Method to resolve the challenges of the future plants is finding a completely newconfiguration with more efficient system.
