Hydrogen Storage Materials

2015
An eventual realization of a Hydrogen Economy requires working solutions in three fundamental areas, namely hydrogen production, hydrogen storage, and fuel cells, in addition to the development of an extensive, new infrastructure. While neutron scattering experiments and the associated techniques of analysis have been of utility in all three of these ...

Boron Compounds as Hydrogen Storage Materials

Energy Sources, Part A: Recovery, Utilization, and Environmental Effects, 2007
Abstract Hydrogen exhibits the highest heating value per mass of all chemical fuels. Furthermore, hydrogen is regenerative and environmentally friendly. Hence, hydrogen storage is very important for humans. Hydrogen storage in metal hydrides is considered as one of the most attractive methods.

Calcium Amidotrihydroborate: A Hydrogen Storage Material

Angewandte Chemie International Edition, 2007
The promise of the hydrogen economy, while great, will only be realized when many major scientific challenges are overcome. One of primary challenges is the need to find a safe and economic method for storing and transporting H2. Conventional storage systems include classical high-pressure tanks, insulated liquid-hydrogen systems, and storage in ...

Lithium nitride as hydrogen storage material

International Journal of Hydrogen Energy, 2008
In this paper we report studies of the elastic modulus and energy dissipation in lithium amide (LiNH2) during its high temperature decomposition into imide (Li2NH), according to the reaction: 2LiNH(2) -> Li2NH + NH3. The dynamic modulus variations allow the time and temperature evolution of decomposition to be monitored.

Hydrogen Storage Materials: Properties and Possibilities

Science, 1981
The physics, chemistry, and possible applications of the storage of hydrogen in intermetallic reservoirs are discussed. Storage in the form of intermetallic hydrides can be safe and, where hydrogen has some special value as a fuel, economical. New pumps and refrigerators based on the heat of sorption of the hydrogen into the intermetallic are ...

Hydrogen Storage Materials

2011
Hydrogen is widely billed as the fuel of the future. For this to be a reality there is a pressing need for a safe, economic and reliable way to transport hydrogen, particularly for automotive applications. This has prompted a world-wide effort to develop novel materials that are re-usable and capable of storing and releasing significant (> 6 wt%)

Polyaniline as a Material for Hydrogen Storage Applications

Macromolecular Rapid Communications, 2013
AbstractThe main challenge of commercialization of the hydrogen economy is the lack of convenient and safe hydrogen storage materials, which can adsorb and release a significant amount of hydrogen at ambient conditions. Finding and designing suitable cost‐effective materials are vital requirements to overcome the drawbacks of investigated materials ...

A Self‐Catalyzing Hydrogen‐Storage Material

Angewandte Chemie, 2008
Conventional (e.g. MgH2) and complex hydrides (e.g. alanates, borohydrides, and amides) are the two primary classes of solid-state hydrogen-storage materials. Many of these “high-density” hydrides have the potential to store large amounts of hydrogen by weight (up to 18.5 wt% for LiBH4) and/or volume (up to 112 gL 1 for MgH2), values that are ...

Hydrogen-rich boron-containing materials for hydrogen storage

Dalton Transactions, 2008
Hydrogen-rich boron-containing compounds have received extensive attention as potential hydrogen storage media for vehicular applications. The past years have seen significant progresses in material discovery, material composition/structure tailoring, catalyst identification and regeneration chemistry, which give rise to state-of-the-art hydrogen ...
