Localization of Partial Discharges in Hydrogenerators by Ozone Emission

open access: yesEnergies
We suggest a new method of localization of partial discharges in high-power electrical systems. Ozone in a hydrogenerator is produced by chemical reactions induced by partial discharges in the stator region.

Algae control for hydrogeneration canals [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
The purpose of this Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) was to assess and develop control practices for nuisance algae growth in power canal that delivers water to hydro-generation facilities. This growth results in expenditures related not only to lost generation but also labor and materials costs associated with implementing ...

Using Simplified Models to Assist Fault Detection and Diagnosis in Large Hydrogenerators

open access: yesInternational Journal of Rotating Machinery, 2017
Based on experimental evidence collected in a set of twenty 700 MW hydrogenerators, this article shows that the operating conditions of large hydrogenerators journal bearings may have unpredictable and significant changes, without apparent reasons. These

Effects of Shifted Magnetic Poles and Skewed Stator Slots on the Synchronous Reactance, Damper Bar Loss, and No‐Load Waveforms of Tubular Hydrogenerators

open access: yesElectronics Letters, Volume 62, Issue 1, January/December 2026.
With a large‐scale 34‐MW integer‐slot tubular hydrogenerator as an example, static and transient field models are established and solved in this paper to reveal the influence laws of two key geometric structures, skewed stator slots and shifted poles, on synchronous reactance, damper bar losses, and no‐load voltage waveforms.

Experimental Aspects in the Vibration-Based Condition Monitoring of Large Hydrogenerators

open access: yesInternational Journal of Rotating Machinery, 2017
Based on experimental observations on a set of twenty 700 MW hydrogenerators, compiled from several technical reports issued over the last three decades and collected from the reprocessing of the vibration signals recorded during the last commissioning ...

AIR GAP CONTROL SYSTEM FOR HYDROGENERATORS

open access: yesDevices and Methods of Measurements, 2017
In this paper, we report of the solving the actual problem of control the air gap in the hydrogenerators. The aim of the study was development of a computerized information-measuring system for measuring the air gap in the hydrogenator, which used two capacitive sensors with parallel coplanar electrodes, and the method of determining the shape of the ...

Analysis and calculation of electromagnetic force of stator winding and damping bar during dynamic loading of pumped storage generator/motor

open access: yesIET Electric Power Applications, Volume 19, Issue 1, January/December 2025.
By studying the electromagnetic force law of the stator tooth wall and the key points of the stator tooth tip under different loadings, the key parts of the stator tooth wall subjected to the electromagnetic force shock are found out. What's more, the force change law of the damping strip is obtained through analysing the force of the damping tooth ...

Synchronous Generator Out of Step Detection Using Real Time Load Angle Data

open access: yesEnergies, 2020
Although the power system usually always appears stable and reliable to consumers, a lot of work and research goes into keeping the power system both stable and reliable under constantly changing conditions and in these increasingly demanding times.

A new method for axis adjustment of the hydro-generator unit using machine learning

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
The power quality and efficiency of the hydro-power station depend on the stable operation of the hydro-generator unit, which needs to continue to operate and it is prone to axis failure.
