From temperate to polar waters: Transition to non‐cyanobacterial diazotrophy upon entering the Atlantic gateway of the Arctic Ocean

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography, Volume 70, Issue 10, Page 2924-2940, October 2025.
Abstract Nitrogen fixation, the microbial reduction of dinitrogen to ammonia, is increasingly recognized to occur in the Arctic Ocean. However, knowledge about the composition, biogeography, abundance, and ecology of nitrogen‐fixing organisms (diazotrophs) is poor.

Nitrous oxide turnover in the suboxic zone of the Black Sea

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography, Volume 70, Issue 10, Page 2893-2909, October 2025.
Abstract The Black Sea is the largest meromictic marine basin characterized by well‐oxygenated surface waters and a deep sulfidic anoxic core, separated by a ca. 50‐m‐thick suboxic zone. Nitrogen cycling at oxic‐anoxic boundaries of oxygen‐depleted marine environments has been identified as a major source of nitrous oxide (N2O), a potent greenhouse gas.

The Surface Water and Ocean Topography Mission: A Breakthrough in Radar Remote Sensing of the Ocean and Land Surface Water

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters
The elevations of water surfaces hold important information on the earth's oceans and land surface waters. Ocean sea surface height is related to the internal change of the ocean's density and mass associated with ocean circulation and its response to ...
