Abstract While large earthquakes can alter groundwater systems far from the epicenter, their hydromechanical changes remain elusive. We investigate the 2011 Mw 9.0 Tohoku earthquake's impact on a deep well‐aquifer system ∼2,000 km from the epicenter. By employing the groundwater tidal and barometric pressure response methods, we perform tidal response ...

A Parallelized 3D Geomechanical Solver for Fluid‐Induced Fault Slip in Poroelastic Media
ABSTRACT We present a fully implicit formulation of coupled fluid flow and geomechanics for fluid injection/withdrawal in fractured reservoirs in the context of CO2$\textrm {CO}_2$ storage. Utilizing a Galerkin finite‐element approach, both flow and poroelasticity equations are discretized on a shared three‐dimensional mesh.

A Thermodynamic Framework for Turing‐Type Instabilities in Porous Media: Part I Theory
Abstract Pattern formation in geological materials is commonly described using analogies to Turing‐type reaction–diffusion systems, yet a unifying thermodynamic explanation remains elusive. Here we develop a multiscale, thermodynamically consistent framework for pattern‐forming instabilities in porous media undergoing coupled thermo–hydro–mechanical ...

Design Automation of Complex Hydromechanical Transmissions
This thesis proposes an automated methodology for the design of complex multiple-mode hydromechanical transmissions. High fuel prices and strict emission regulations are today drivers of the development of new fuel-efficient drive transmissions for construction machinery. Hydromechanical transmissions have high energy efficiency and a wide torque/speed

Double-flow hydromechanical transmissions are widely used in industrial tractors and high-speed tracked vehicles. The main advantage of this transmission is a higher value of the maximum efficiency compared to a single-flow hy-dromechanical transmission.

Reinforced soil technology is widely applied in slope stabilization, yet the optimal configuration of reinforcement remains a key design challenge. This study presents a comprehensive investigation of vertical rib‐reinforced and inclined‐reinforced geogrid layouts through scaled physical model tests (1:10) and finite element simulations using MIDAS GTS.

Configuration of the Power Reflux Hydro-Mechanical Transmission System
The hydro-mechanical transmission system (HMTS) operates either in power split transmission mode (PSTM) or power reflux transmission mode (PRTM). Although PRTM is often ignored as a transition mode, this study reveals that the HMTS operating in the PRTM ...

Ultrasonic sounding and monitoring of the excavation damaged zone in relation with drift support [PDF]
International audienceUnder high in situ stresses, the excavation of underground openings generally causes the creation of a disturbed (EdZ: Excavation disturbed Zone) and/or damaged (EDZ: Excavation Damaged Zone) zone, resulting from the initiation and ...
