Notes on the recent occurrence of uncommon pelagic “jellyfish” species in Maltese coastal waters [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
There is a dearth of published works on sightings of uncommon pelagic jellyfish species within Maltese coastal waters, with a handful of disparate published reports and with most other existing relevant information being carried in newspapers and other

Pelagic coelenterates in the waters of the western part of the Egyptian Mediterranean Coast during summer and winter

open access: yesOceanologia, 2004
During August 2000 and February 2001 two cruises were carried out along the Egyptian Mediterranean Coast on the Egyptian r/v "El-Yarmouk". The samples collected were used to study the ecology and distribution of hydromedusae and siphonophores during ...

Trends in hydroidomedusan research from 1911 to 1997 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
The papers on hydroidomedusae published from 1911 to 1997 total 10,934. They have been assigned to the following categories: faunistics and systematics; sub-organismal biology; ecology; evolution; life cycles; paleontology.

On the nematocysts of hydromedusae [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the Marine Biological Association of the United Kingdom, 1938
The nematocysts of twenty species of Hydromedusae occurring at Plymouth are described. Of these, twelve were Anthomedusae and seven were Leptomedusae, and one was the Siphonophore, Muggiaea atlantica. The medusae fit very well into the generally accepted classification as regards the types of nematocysts they possess.

Food habits and dietary variability of pelagic nekton off Oregon and Washington, 1979-1984 [PDF]

open access: yes, 1987
The food habits of 20 species of pelagic nekton were investigated from collections made with small-mesh purse seines from 1979-84 off Washington and Oregon. Four species (spiny dogfish, Squalus acanthias; soupfin shark, Galeorhinus zyopterus; blue shark,

Transport of inertial particles by Lagrangian coherent structures : application to predator-prey interaction in jellyfish feeding [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We use a dynamical systems approach to identify coherent structures from often chaotic motions of inertial particles in open flows. We show that particle Lagrangian coherent structures (pLCS) act as boundaries between regions in which particles have ...

Seasonal succession of gelatinous zooplankton (medusae and ctenophores) from Mar del Plata Harbor, Argentina (SW Atlantic Ocean)

open access: yesEcología Austral, 2019
Temporal variation of the population dynamics of the medusae and ctenophores (gelatinous zooplankton) is described over an annual cycle in the Mar del Plata Harbor, Argentina.

Disentangling the counteracting effects of water content and carbon mass on zooplankton growth [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Zooplankton vary widely in carbon percentage (carbon mass as a percentage of wet mass), but are often described as either gelatinous or non-gelatinous. Here we update datasets of carbon percentage and growth rate to investigate whether carbon percentage ...
