Rewetting prolongs root growing season in minerotrophic peatlands and mitigates negative drought effects

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 59, Issue 8, Page 2106-2116, August 2022., 2022
Rewetting extended the growing season of roots, highlighting the importance of phenology in explaining root productivity in peatlands. A longer growing season allows a longer period of carbon sequestration in form of root biomass and promotes the peatlands' carbon sink function, especially through longer growth in deep soil layers.

Delineating Source Contributions to Stream Dissolved Organic Matter Composition Under Baseflow Conditions in Forested Headwater Catchments

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Biogeosciences, Volume 126, Issue 8, August 2021., 2021
Abstract Dissolved organic matter (DOM) composition in streams reflects the dynamic interplay between DOM sources, mobilization mechanisms, and biogeochemical transformations within soils and receiving water bodies. The information regarding DOM sources being mobilized during baseflow can improve our ability to predict hydrological and biogeochemical ...

Catchment Functioning Under Prolonged Drought Stress: Tracer‐Aided Ecohydrological Modeling in an Intensively Managed Agricultural Catchment

open access: yesWater Resources Research, Volume 57, Issue 3, March 2021., 2021
Abstract High spatial heterogeneity of catchment properties enhances the variability of ecohydrological responses to changing natural and anthropogenic conditions, like the European‐wide droughts in 2018–2019. Based on new adaptations of a tracer‐aided, process‐based ecohydrological model (EcH2O‐iso), we investigated drought‐induced nonstationary ...

A TOOLBOX FOR SEDIMENT BUDGET RESEARCH IN SMALL CATCHMENTS

open access: yesGeography, Environment, Sustainability, 2017
Sediment monitoring and assessment remain one of the most challenging tasks in fluvial geomorphology and water quality studies. As a response to various environmental and human disturbance effects, the main sources and pathways of the sediments ...

Reactivation of Floodplains in River Restorations: Long‐Term Implications on the Mobility of Floodplain Sediment Deposits

open access: yesWater Resources Research, Volume 55, Issue 10, Page 8178-8196, October 2019., 2019
Abstract Nowadays, national and international requirements and laws emphasize the “natural” development of river‐floodplain systems. One goal is to increase the connectivity between the river and its floodplains and thus reactivate floodplains as flooding areas, which potentially increases the mobility of fine sediments.

Comparison between MR-hydrometry and secretin-cholecystokinin-test in diagnosis of pancreas insufficiency

open access: yes, 2011
Die MR-Hydrometrie zeigt eine hohe Sensitivität und Spezifität bei höhergradigen exokrinen Pankreasinsuffizienzen im Vergleich zum Sekretin-Cholecystokinin-Test.

Groundwater Storage in High Alpine Catchments and Its Contribution to Streamflow

open access: yesWater Resources Research, Volume 55, Issue 4, Page 2613-2630, April 2019., 2019
Abstract There is limited knowledge about groundwater storage in alpine catchments, although it might strongly influence how these catchments react to earlier snowmelt due to climate change. The objective of the study was to develop and test a method to quantify seasonal groundwater storage in alpine catchments and evaluate how groundwater storage is ...

Movement Pattern and Habitat Use of the Endangered Brook Barbel (Barbus caninus) in a Mediterranean Stream

open access: yesEcology of Freshwater Fish, Volume 34, Issue 4, October 2025.
ABSTRACT Understanding the ecology and behaviour of freshwater fish species is essential for effective management and conservation. Within the genus Barbus, small‐sized mountain species remain understudied despite conservation concerns. In this study, we investigated the movement patterns, habitat use and flow preferences of the endangered species ...

Some challenges in hydrometry [PDF]

open access: yesLa Houille Blanche, 2014
Hydrometry has always been an important branch in hydrology. Even so, the quality of streamflow data might not have evolved in accordance with the advances in hydrological sciences. A too large uncertainty in published data is still a challenge in hydrometry. Hydrometric field work is a diverse profession.
