Prenatal Hydronephrosis

Pediatric Clinics of North America, 2006
Hydronephrosis is the most common genitourinary tract anomaly identified on prenatal ultrasound studies. Ureteropelvic junction obstruction accounts for approximately 50% of the cases of prenatally detected hydronephrosis. Postnatal evaluation allows for the identification of the cause and further management.

Hydronephrosis and polycythemia

Urology, 1983
Polycythemia is consistently produced in animals undergoing experimental hydronephrosis. This hematologic response is thought to be mediated by a microcirculatory insult and a more accelerated elaboration of erythropoietin by the hydronephrotic kidney.

Hydronephrosis of pregnancy

Urology, 1976
This review was done because most texts and some recent reviews do not recognize the obstructive cause. It is important only because of the high incidence of acute pyelonephritis during pregnancy. This is so common that it has been given a special name, "pyelitis of pregnancy".

Their prevalence varies according to age and sex: males are more interested in the neonatal period and in the first year of age, while females are more involved after that time.

Antenatal hydronephrosis

Current Urology Reports, 2009
The diagnosis, workup, and management of prenatal hydronephrosis have undergone a swing from preemptive surgical treatment to a more conservative approach as the natural history of the differential diagnoses becomes more appreciated. We examine different radiologic tests for determining the diagnoses associated with antenatal hydronephrosis.

Neonatal hydronephrosis

Current Opinion in Urology, 1998
With fetal abnormalities diagnosed during maternal ultrasound becoming more commonplace, the management of neonatal hydronephrosis has become one of the most interesting and controversial subjects in pediatric urology. Although it is recognized that obstruction must be treated, it is also clear that hydronephrosis may well exist without significant ...

Angiography in hydronephrosis

Urology, 1973
Abstract In hydronephrosis, the angiogram enables assessment of the vascular architecture of the kidney, the amount of parenchyma present, or the possibility of a vascular cause for the obstruction. The loss or amputation of arcuate or interlobular arteries on the angiogram is an early sign of hydronephrotic atrophy.
