Microemulsion Polymerization of Butyl Acrylate in the Presence of Polymeric Hydrophobes [PDF]

open access: yesPolymer Journal, 2000
Microemulsion polymerization of butyl acrylate initiated by a water-soluble ammonium peroxodisulfate initiator in the presence of polymeric hydrophobe was investigated. The polymerization rate (without polymer) vs. conversion curve shows two nonconstant rate intervals.

Tailoring pH-responsive acrylic acid microgels with hydrophobic crosslinks for drug release [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Amphiphilic microgels based on the hydrophilic acrylic acid (AA) and hydrophobic crosslinks of different compositions were synthesised using a lab-on-a-chip device. The microgels were formed by polymerising hydrophobic droplets.

Preferential Interfacial Engineering of Hydrogels via Interdigitated Nanoparticle Assembly

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Robust surface functionalization of hydrogel surfaces is performed via interdigitated metal nanoparticle assembly, inducing strong affinity with the hydrogel matrix. The partially exposed nanoparticle domains act as interfacial nanobridges that mediate both chemical and physical bonding with diverse materials, including small molecules, fluorous ...

Anti-icing performance of hydrophobic material used for electromechanical drill applied in ice core drilling

open access: yesJournal of Glaciology, 2020
Using an anti-icing coating to prevent ice accretion on the drill surface is a feasible solution to address the drilling difficulties in warm ice. In this study, four types of commercially available hydrophobic coating materials were tested to evaluate ...

Upcycling Keratin‐Based Textile Waste Into High‐Performance Hybrid Fibers Via Tuning the Interfacial Interactions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Keratin recovered from animal‐hair textile waste is fractionated and blended with cellulose to produce continuously spun hybrid fibers. Selecting the high‐molecular‐weight keratin fraction enables 30 wt.% keratin incorporation while maintaining high strength in dry and wet states.

First Results after Implantation of Hydrophilic and Hydrophobic Trifocal Intraocular Lenses: Visual and Optical Performance

open access: yesJournal of Ophthalmology, 2021
Purpose. To compare postcataract surgery visual and optical performance between two trifocal intraocular lenses (IOLs) with the same optical design: a hydrophobic acrylic glistening-free IOL and a hydrophilic acrylic IOL. Methods.

Fiber‐Based Wearable Electronics as Adaptive Biointerfaces for Healthcare Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Fiber‐based wearable electronics have been extensively studied as adaptive healthcare biointerfaces. In this review, we classify and introduce fiber‐based systems according to biointerface design, conductive materials, transduction mechanisms, and healthcare applications, and provide a perspective on their translation toward reliable, continuous ...

New domestic intraocular lenses. Resistance to biodegradation processes in comparison with foreign analogues

open access: yesОфтальмохирургия, 2023
Relevance. Due to the high demand for import substitution, the prospect of assessing the long-term results of implantation of domestic models of intraocular lenses (IOL) will determine their place among a wide range of models offered by modern ...
