Hydrophytes and Climate Change

Climate change brings more challenges to agriculture, ecosystems, and human health, with increasing incidences of soil degradation, water scarcity, and contamination from heavy metals. Hydrophytes are water-loving plants which offer a sustainable, environment friendly solution through their natural capacity for phytoremediation. The study evaluates the

Hydrophyte Vegetation of Jhalukbari

Nelumbo
A study of hydrophyte vegetation of the area ipentioned above is made and the plants are enumerated and arranged under the system of classification of Bentham and Hooker.14 dicot families with 27 species and 12 monocot families with 38 species are represented. In all monocots exceed the dicots in number, though mor6 dicot families are present.

A Synthetic Hydrophyte for Sunlight-Driven Water Purification

Environmental Science & Technology
The increased global use of pharmaceutical and personal care products (PPCPs) and their emissions into natural water bodies pose formidable challenges to ecosystem health. Because aquatic plants like hydrophyte natantia can effectively remove pollutants via photosynthesis-powered rhizoextraction and phytotransformation, they are widely applied in ...

Determination of Water Use by Phreatophytes and Hydrophytes

Journal of the Hydraulics Division, 1966
Evapotranspiration from arrowweed, saltbush, and cattail, and evaporation from bare soil with depths of 2 ft to 4 ft of water, were measured in evaporimeters of 100 sq ft to 1,000 sq ft along the lower Colorado River. Preliminary results show uses of 5.0 ft to 9.0 ft per yr for arrowweed, 2.5 ft to 4.0 ft per yr for saltbush, approximately 8.5 ft per ...

Hydrophytes control on biogeochemistry: focusing on isoetids and exotic hydrophytes in French Atlantic Lakes

2015

Diversity and Distribution of Hydrophytes in Davanagere District

Environmental Reports
The present study reveals that there are 123 species of hydrophytes from 75 genera and 40 families were recorded. The most well-represented family among them was Cyperaceae. Among 123 species 49 dicots, 73 monocots, and 1 pteridophytes, distributed across 40 families and 75 genera.

Hydrophytes and Heavy Metal Stress

Heavy metals like cadmium (Cd) and arsenic (As) significantly affect hydrophyte growth, disrupting processes like photosynthesis and causing oxidative stress. Some species, such as Elodea canadensis (submerged) and Eichhornia crassipes (floating), act as hyperaccumulators, capturing metals at efficiencies exceeding 72.5% in contaminated environments ...
