Performance assessment of a potential underground thermal storage facility: Case study of the closed mine Prosper‐Haniel in the Ruhr coal mining area in Germany

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates the feasibility of an underground closed‐loop thermal storage facility at a post‐mining site, intended for seasonal heat energy storage. Its principal design shows water flow directions in winter and summer (1, 2), heat pumps (3), an upper water reservoir (4), and connecting pipes (5).

Why have hydrostatic bearings been avoided as a stabilizing element for rotating machines [PDF]

open access: yes
The advantages are discussed of hydrostatic, high pressure bearings as providers of higher margin of stability to the rotor/bearing systems. It is apparent that deliberate use of hydrostatic bearing high pressure lubricated (any gas or liquid) can easily

Research on Controlled Hydrostatic Bearing

open access: yesTransactions of the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers, 1964
For controlled hydrostatic bearings having variable restrictions, it is possible to make their static stiffness increase greatly by means of the automatic regulation of recess pressure; namely the recess pressure controlled by a spool valve rises rapidly according to the displacement of journal or shaft, thus the bearings possess very high load ...

Embryonic cerebrospinal fluid pressure in fetal mice in utero: External factors pressurize the intraventricular space

open access: yesDevelopmental Dynamics, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Previous experiments inducing leakage of embryonic cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) suggest the necessity of intraventricular CSF pressure (PCSF) for brain morphogenesis. Nevertheless, how embryonic PCSF occurs is unclear, especially in utero. Results Using a Landis water manometer, we measured PCSF in fetal mice isolated from the amniotic

RESEARCH ON ACCURATE MODELING OF HYDROSTATIC MOTORIZED SPINDLE BASED ON RESPONSE SURFACE OPTIMIZATION ALGORITHM

open access: yesJixie qiangdu, 2022
In solving the boundary conditions of a hydrostatic motorized spindle, there are some certain errors between the boundary conditions calculated by the traditional empirical formula and the actual conditions.

Orbital transfer vehicle oxygen turbopump technology. Volume 2: Nitrogen and ambient oxygen testing [PDF]

open access: yes
The testing of a rocket engine oxygen turbopump using high pressure ambient temperature nitrogen and oxygen as the turbine drive gas in separate test series is discussed. The pumped fluid was liquid nitrogen or liquid oxygen.

Investigation of the Dynamic Evolution Mechanism of Bed Separation in Karst Aquifers and Risk Assessment of Water Inrush

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
This study reveals the temporal and spatial evolution law of roof separation under the karst aquifer and the dynamic water inrush mechanism of roof separation. The FAHP–EWM–CRITIC combination weighting method was established to obtain the risk zoning of bed separation water inrush in a karst landform mining area. ABSTRACT Coalfields in northern Guizhou

Effect of Hydrostatic Guideway on Reduction of Machine Tool Ram Vibration [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The guideways provide translational movement of machine parts and have a major impact on the resulting utility properties of the ma-chine tools, such as machining accuracy, surface quality and productivity.

Optimization of Hydrostatic Thrust Bearings

open access: yesJournal of the Japan Society of Precision Engineering, 1978
In this paper, the theoretical studies on the optimization of the operating condition of the hydrostatic thrust bearings are presented. Total amount of power consumption is treated as an objective function, while the bearing clearance, static stiffness, damping ratio of the bearing, lubricant viscosity and the initial lift up pressure are considered as

Early versus late amniotomy during twin labor

open access: yesInternational Journal of Gynecology &Obstetrics, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective This study evaluates whether timing of amniotomy affects labor characteristics and maternal and neonatal outcomes in twin deliveries. Methods This retrospective study was conducted at a single academic medical center and included dichorionic diamniotic (DCDA) twin pregnancies with a normal anomaly scan and a vertex‐presenting leading
