The Hydrostatic Gas Journal Bearing With Journal Rotation and Vibration

Journal of Basic Engineering, 1964
This paper analyzes the load-carrying capacity of the externally pressurized gas journal bearing, including the effect of journal rotation and vibration. The analysis assumes small eccentricity ratio and small vibration amplitude such that a first-order perturbation solution is obtained.

Dynamic Characteristics of a Hydrostatic Gas Bearing Driven by Oscillating Exhaust Pressure

Journal of Tribology, 1984
Vibration of a statically loaded, inherently compensated hydrostatic journal bearing due to oscillating exhaust pressure is investigated. Both angular and radial vibration modes are analyzed. The time-dependent Reynolds equation governing the pressure distribution between the oscillating journal and sleeve is solved together with the journal equation ...

Design and Test of Hydrostatic Gas Bearings for a Hybrid Cryogenic Refrigerator

Advanced Energy Systems, 2003
A hybrid pulse-tube/reverse-Brayton cryocooler is being developed that integrates a regenerative, pulse-tube upper stage with a recuperative, reverse-Brayton lower stage using a flow rectification system consisting of check-valves and buffer volumes.

Stability of a New Type of Hydrostatic/Hydrodynamic Floating Ring Gas Bearing

Tribology Transactions, 1999
In this paper, a new type of floating ring gas bearing in which a “floating ring” is combined with an “orifice-annular and shallow-pocket” gas bearing is introduced. The stability of this new type of floating ring gas journal bearing is theoretically analyzed by use of the modified 8-stiffness and damping coefficients method.

Investigation of the Spherical Hydrostatic Gas Bearing for Two-Axis Gyros

Journal of Lubrication Technology, 1971
Investigation shows that spherical hydrostatic gas bearings can be manufactured by coining of precision dimensions in aluminum die castings. The paper also shows that the goals of low competitive costs and high reliability can be achieved with commercial balls, filters, and gas cartridges.

Tilting effects on the performance of hydrostatic and hybrid gas thrust bearings

Tribology International, 1981
Abstract A hydrostatic gas thrust bearing is analysed to determine the effect of tilting on its performance characteristics. The governing Reynolds Equation is solved simultaneously with the mass flow rate equation by numerical methods to determine the inlet pressure and the pressure distribution throughout the pad.

ANALYSIS OF PNEUMATIC HAMMER INSTABILITY OF INHERENTLY COMPENSATED HYDROSTATIC THRUST GAS BEARINGS

1967
Abstract : Pneumatic hammer instability of an inherently compensated thrust gas bearing was analyzed theoretically. Vohr's experimental correlation between pressure loss coefficient and Reynolds' number was used to calculate flow through the restrictor instead of using the nozzle equations.
