Geology of the Riacho do Pontal iron oxide copper-gold (IOCG) prospect, Bahia, Brazil: hydrothermal alteration approached via hierarchical cluster analysis

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Geology
The Riacho do Pontal prospect is situated on the border between the Borborema Province and the São Francisco Craton, in Bahia state. It comprises rocks polydeformed during the Neoproterozoic.

A thermodynamic basis for prebiotic amino acid synthesis and the nature of the first genetic code

open access: yes, 2009
Of the twenty amino acids used in proteins, ten were formed in Miller's atmospheric discharge experiments. The two other major proposed sources of prebiotic amino acid synthesis include formation in hydrothermal vents and delivery to Earth via meteorites.

Polyimide‐Linked Hexaazatriphenylene‐Based Porous Organic Polymer with Multiple Redox‐Active Sites as a High‐Capacity Organic Cathode for Lithium‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A high‐capacity polyimide‐linked porous organic polymer (HAT‐PTO) incorporating numerous redox‐active centers is synthesized via a hydrothermal reaction, delivering a high theoretical capacity of 484 mAh g−1. In situ hybridization with carboxyl‐functionalized multiwalled carbon nanotubes enhances conductivity and stability, achieving 397 mAh g−1 at C ...

Asymmetric Bi and S Single Atoms Over Porous Single‐Crystal TiO2 for Efficient CO2 Photoreduction to Acetic Acid

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Photocatalytic CO2 to acetic acid is achieved over triadic synergy among asymmetric Bi–O4, S–O2 and 3D porous single‐crystal TiO2, harnessed by a selective extraction process. Particularly, the Bi sites lower the energy barrier for CHO* and C─C coupling, and the structure of S─O regulates Bi─O and Ti─O as a strong Lewis base site ((SO2–BiO4)δ−) to ...

Application of mineralogical, petrological and geochemical tools for evaluating the palaeohdrogeological evolution of the PADAMOT study sites [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The role of Work Package (WP) 2 of the PADAMOT project – ‘Palaeohydrogeological Data Measurements’ - has been to study late-stage fracture mineral and water samples from groundwater systems in Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom and the Czech Republic, with ...

Spin‐Dependent Photoluminescence in Carbon‐Based Quantum Dots

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Here we report, for the first time, room‐temperature magneto‐photoluminescence and optically detected electron spin‐resonance in carbon quantum dots (CQD). We perform measurements on a series of amino acid derived CQD at room temperature and demonstrate their sensing potential by detecting paramagnetic molecules in solution.

Magmatic significance and hydrothermal alteration of layered chromitites from the Bracco Gabbro Complex, Ligurian Ophiolites, Italy

open access: yesBulletin of the Mineral Research and Exploration
The Bracco chromitites are hosted in the Mesozoic Ligurian Ophiolites (Italy) and provide key insights into the magmatic and post-magmatic (i.e. metamorphic and hydrothermal) evolution ofgabbro-hosted chromitites in an oceanic mantle.

Chemical environments of submarine hydrothermal systems [PDF]

open access: yes
Perhaps because black-smoker chimneys make tremendous subjects for magazine covers, the proposal that submarine hydrothermal systems were involved in the origin of life has caused many investigators to focus on the eye-catching hydrothermal vents.

The role of high- and low-temperature ocean crust alteration for the marine calcium budget [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Calcium (Ca) is a key element for the understanding of the chemical evolution of the ocean and for the global climate on long geological time scales.
