Exploring the links between Large Igneous Provinces and dramatic environmental impact
An emerging consensus suggests that Large Igneous Provinces (LIPs) and Silicic LIPs (SLIPs) are a significant driver of dramatic global environmental and biological changes, including mass extinctions.

The Lau Basin Float Experiment (LAUB-FLEX) [PDF]
Before 2004, little was known about deep ocean circulation in the Lau Basin, a semi-enclosed basin in the South Pacific Ocean, about 1,500 km north of New Zealand.

Z‐Scheme Water Splitting Systems Based on Solid‐State Electron Conductors
This review examines the latest advances in Z‐scheme overall water splitting (OWS) systems for solar hydrogen production. These systems consist of suspended or immobilized hydrogen evolution photocatalysts (HEPs) and oxygen evolution photocatalysts (OEPs).

Overcoming challenges in the classification of deep geothermal potential [PDF]
The geothermal community lacks a universal definition of deep geothermal systems. A minimum depth of 400 m is often assumed, with a further sub-classification into middle-deep geothermal systems for reservoirs found between 400 and 1000 m.

Numerical computation of hydrothermal fluid circulation in fractured Earth structures [PDF]
Summary Hydrothermal fluid circulation through porous Earth materials is an important physical phenomenon occurring in both submarine and continental environments. Irregularly interconnected discrete fractures are pervasive in nearly all Earth materials, providing preferential paths for fluid flow and controlling the circulating fluid patterns. Most

State‐of‐the‐Art, Insights, and Perspectives for MOFs‐Nanocomposites and MOF‐Derived (Nano)Materials
Different approaches to MOF‐NP composite formation, such as ship‐in‐a‐bottle, bottle‐around‐the‐ship and in situ one‐step synthesis, are used. Owing to synergistic effects, the advantageous features of the components of the composites are beneficially combined, and their individual drawbacks are mitigated.

The Iceland Deep Drilling Project 4.5 km deep well, IDDP-2, in the seawater-recharged Reykjanes geothermal field in SW Iceland has successfully reached its supercritical target [PDF]
The Iceland Deep Drilling Project research well RN-15/IDDP-2 at Reykjanes, Iceland, reached its target of supercritical conditions at a depth of 4.5 km in January 2017. After only 6 days of heating, the measured bottom hole temperature was 426 °C, and

Numerical simulation of hydrothermal vent‐induced circulation at Endeavour Ridge [PDF]
Hydrothermal venting at Endeavour Ridge is focused at five major vent fields spaced at ∼2‐km intervals along a narrow (∼1 km wide) north‐south trending rift‐valley. A Princeton Ocean Model with an axially symmetric rift‐valley centered within a rotating, full‐depth (2400 m) stratified ocean is used to simulate the circulation and associated temperature
