Machine learning predicts and optimizes hydrothermal liquefaction of biomass
The hydrothermal liquefaction process has recently attracted more attention in biorefinery design and implementation because of its capability of handling various wet biomass feedstocks. However, measuring the quantitative and qualitative characteristics

Hydrothermal Liquefaction of Black Liquor
2022Black liquor, which is produced in large quantities in the pulp & paper industry as a by-product in the Kraft process is an interesting feedstock for hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL). HTL is a thermochemical process to convert organic matter into biocrude for fuel applications or the production of useful chemical compounds and is especially useful ...

Hydrothermal liquefaction of polysaccharide feedstocks with heterogeneous catalysts
Bioresource Technology, 2022Hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL) of starch, cellulose, pectin, and chitin with Pd/C, Co-Mo/γ-Al2O3, and zeolite was investigated at 320 °C for 30 min. Using Co-Mo/γ-Al2O3 at 5 wt% loading led to the highest biocrude yields from starch (25 wt%) and cellulose (23 wt%). The yields from cellulose are more than twice those from noncatalytic HTL (11 wt%).

Thermal Effects on Hydrothermal Biomass Liquefaction
Applied Biochemistry and Biotechnology, 2008Batch pressure vessels commonly used for hydrothermal liquefaction have typical heating times in the range of 30 to 60 min. Thermodynamically, the complex set of reactions are path dependent, so that the heating rate can possibly affect yields and the composition of the resultant liquid products.

Hydrothermal liquefaction of olive oil residues
Sustainable Chemistry and Pharmacy, 2021Abstract Hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL) of olive oil residues was conducted at various temperatures (250, 270, 300 and 330 °C) and residence times (5, 15, 30, and 60 min). The effect of metal chlorides (AlCl3 and SnCl2) on product yields and compositions was investigated under optimum conditions (300 °C for 15 min).

Hydrothermal liquefaction of cellulose in ammonia/water
Bioresource Technology, 2019In order to obtain the N-containing organics from cellulose under mild conditions, hydrothermal liquefaction of cellulose in the presence of ammonia was conducted in this study. The results showed that the increasing reaction temperature and prolonging time facilitated the conversion of cellulose in hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL) with NH3·H2O and ...

Hydrothermal Lignin Liquefaction
2011A high pressure hydrothermal process is applied to convert lignin to phenol. The advantage of such an approach is that fast hydrolysis reactions, thermal degradation reactions and in situ hydrogenation via the water gas shift reaction are taking place simultaneously.

Catalytic hydrothermal liquefaction of water hyacinth
Bioresource Technology, 2015Thermal and catalytic hydrothermal liquefaction of water hyacinth was performed at temperatures from 250 to 300 °C under various water hyacinth:H2O ratio of 1:3, 1:6 and 1:12. Reactions were also carried out under various residence times (15-60 min) as well as catalytic conditions (KOH and K2CO3).
