Fractional distillation of hydrothermal liquefaction Biocrude [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
This thesis describes fractional distillation as an upgrading method for improving the quality of hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL) biocrude as a green-based biofuel. Firstly, as a part of the biomass to fuel pathway, aqueous phase recycling in the HTL process increased the yield of biocrude production and reduced the nitrogen content.

Fast Hydrothermal Liquefaction of Native and Torrefied Wood

open access: yesEnergy Procedia, 2017
Abstract The work presented in this paper aimed to examine the effect of heating rate on the bio-crude yield of wood hydrothermal liquefaction. Three different heating methods were developed, resulting in heating rates ranging from 66 °C/min to 179 °C/min.

Non-catalytic Hydrothermal Liquefaction of Biomass: An Experimental Design Approach

open access: yesEnergy Procedia, 2017
A face centered central composite design was used for determining the effects of reaction temperature (180-260°C), reaction time (0-2 h) and sawdust concentration (9.1-25 wt%) on conversion and recovered product yields during hydrothermal liquefaction of pine sawdust. The determined conversion and aqueous product (AP) yield were in the range 23.1-57.2%
