Enrichment of bio-oil after hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL) of microalgae C. vulgaris grown in wastewater: Bio-char and post HTL wastewater utilization studies

Bioresource Technology, 2018
In this study, bio-oil was produced through hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL) of C. vulgaris biomass cultivated in wastewater and was enriched into transportation fuels. Bio-oil yield was 29.37% wt at 300 °C, 60 min, at 15 g/200 mL biomass loading rate with 3% wt nano ZnO catalyst loading.

Characterization of liquid products from hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL) of biomass via solid-phase microextraction (SPME)

Biomass and Bioenergy, 2016
Abstract Although hydrothermal liquefaction of biomass (HTL) is considered one of the most promising techniques for production of drop-in biofuels, the challenges associated with its development and expansion are still significant. One of the issues is concerned with characterization of the liquid product (biocrude) and by-product (aqueous phase ...

A review on potential of green solvents in hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL) of lignin

Bioresource Technology, 2022
One of the greatest challenges in biorefinery is to reduce biomass' recalcitrance and enable valorization of lignin into higher value compounds. Likewise, green solvents and hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL) with feasible economic viability, functionality, and environmental sustainability have been widely introduced in extraction and conversion of lignin.

Effect of Catalyst on Hydrothermal Liquefaction Process (Htl) for the Production of Bio-oil

SSRN Electronic Journal, 2018
Hydrothermal liquefaction is a favourable process to convert high moisture lignocellulosic biomass into alternative liquid oil. The merits of liquid fuels are widely known due to their high energy content, transportability and applicability. Among other thermochemical conversions, HTL allows biomass to be processed without drying at a temperature of a ...

Hydrothermal Liquefaction (HTL): A Promising Pathway for Biorefinery of Algae

2017
Hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL) is in a closed oxygen-free reactor by pressurizing inert gases (e.g., N2 or He) or reducing gases (e.g., H2 or CO), at a certain temperature (250–380°C) and pressure (5–28 MPa). During HTL, the hot compressed water is used as both solvent and reaction medium.

Corrosion Performance of Reactor Candidate Alloys During Hydrothermal Liquefaction (HTL) of Cellulose in a Batch Reactor

CONFERENCE 2022, 2022
Abstract Hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL) is seen as a promising thermochemical approach to convert wet and waste biomass feedstocks into biocrude oils and other valuable chemicals. One of the critical technical barriers that must be addressed for the industrial deployment of HTL technology is the corrosion of process core equipment ...

A Mini Review of the Potentials of Chlorella Species Microalge for the Production of Biocrude by Hydrothermal Liquefaction (HTL) Operation

Journal Of Engineering Research Innovation And Scientific Development, 2023
The operation of hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL) of biomass is an enticing technique for the production of biocrude, which can serve as a viable alternative energy source to the growing universal energy demand and the pollution problem caused by fossil fuels.
