The complete mitochondrial genome of the hydrozoan jellyfish Turritopsis lata Lendenfeld, 1885 (Cnidaria; Hydrozoa; Anthoathecata) with molecular phylogenetic analysis

open access: yesMitochondrial DNA. Part B. Resources, 2021
In this study, we sequenced and analyzed the complete mitochondrial genome (mtgenome) of the hydrozoan jellyfish Turritopsis lata. The mtgenome was a complete linear form (15,047 bp in length, 30.9% A, 42.1% T, 12.5% C, and 14.5% G), including 13 protein

Life history of Perarella schneideri (Hydrozoa, Cytaedidae) in the Ligurian Sea

open access: yesScientia Marina, 2000
Perarella schneideri is a cytaeidid hydroid living in association with the bryozoan Schizoporella longirostris. In this study we have distinguished the presence of two kinds of polyps in its colonies: large gastrozooids and very extensible filiform ...

Morphology and distribution of a deep-water Narcomedusa (Solmarisidae) from the northeast Pacific

open access: yesScientia Marina, 2000
Specimens of Solmaris sp. (Solmarisidae, Narcomedusae) with only four tentacles were collected in the northeast Pacific. The majority were collected in Canadian Pacific waters by Tucker trawl from stations outside the 500-m contour off the west coast of ...

The historical reconstruction of distribution of the genus Halecium (Hydrozoa: Haleciidae): a biological signal of ocean warming? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The distribution of 130 nominal species of the genus Halecium, based on published records, has been mapped for the first time in a comprehensive set of marine ecoregions, to analyse their distribution.

Biogeographical distribution of the benthic thecate hydroids collected during the Spanish Antartida 8611 expedition and comparison between Antarctic and Magellan benthic hydroid faunas

open access: yesScientia Marina, 1999
The biogeographical distribution of the benthic hydroid species collected during the Spanish Antarctic expedition Antártida 8611 has been studied. An inventory of the Antarctic and Magellan benthic thecate hydroid faunas, along with a comparison between ...

An endogenous green fluorescent protein–photoprotein pair in Clytia hemisphaerica eggs shows co-targeting to mitochondria and efficient bioluminescence energy transfer [PDF]

open access: yesOpen Biology, 2014
Green fluorescent proteins (GFPs) and calcium-activated photoproteins of the aequorin/clytin family, now widely used as research tools, were originally isolated from the hydrozoan jellyfish Aequora victoria.

THE AXIAL GRADIENTS IN HYDROZOA [PDF]

open access: yesThe Biological Bulletin, 1919
1. Differential inhibition of planula development can be brought about in the hydrozoan, Phialidium gregarium, by KCN, LiCl, ethyl urethane HCl (probably CO2) and by the presence of the medusae (CO2). Resulting modifications range from slight increase and extension of basal thickening of blastula wall followed by development of slightly modified ...

An evolutionary genomics view on neuropeptide genes in Hydrozoa and Endocnidozoa (Myxozoa)

open access: yesBMC Genomics, 2021
Background The animal phylum Cnidaria consists of six classes or subphyla: Hydrozoa, Scyphozoa, Cubozoa, Staurozoa, Anthozoa, and Endocnidozoa. Cnidarians have an early evolutionary origin, diverging before the emergence of the Bilateria.

Evidence of Cnidarians sensitivity to sound after exposure to low frequency underwater sources [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Jellyfishes represent a group of species that play an important role in oceans, particularly as a food source for different taxa and as a predator of fish larvae and planktonic prey.

Gene‐specific double‐stranded RNAs induce mortality in the South African mealybug Delottococcus aberiae

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Gene‐specific double‐stranded RNAs effectively silence essential genes in the invasive citrus pest Delottococcus aberiae, leading to significant mortality through both microinjection and oral delivery. These results provide proof of concept for RNA interference‐based biopesticides as selective and sustainable tools for citrus integrated pest management.
