Effects of Non-Equilibrium Hygroscopic Growth of (NH4)2SO4 on Dry Deposition to Water Surfaces

Environmental Science & Technology, 1998
Growth of hygroscopic aerosols near water surfaces is believed to enhance dry deposition rates, which are a strong function of particle size. Previous dry deposition models estimate hygroscopic growth by assuming equilibrium between aerosols and water vapor (Williams, R. M. Atmos. Environ. 1982, 16, 1933-1938).

HYGROSCOPIC EQUILIBRIUM AND TEXTURE OF FREEZE-DRIED FOODS

1967
Abstract : Improved methodology for the objective evaluation of food texture was applied to the measurement of the textural parameters of special freeze-dried foods which were storage-equilibrated under different relative humidity conditions. The foods included pre-cooked freeze-dried beef, laminated freeze- dried products in the form of bite-size ...

The effect of surface tension (Kelvin effect) on the equilibrium radius of a hygroscopic aqueous aerosol particle

Journal of Aerosol Science, 2006
Abstract The effect of surface tension (the Kelvin effect) on the equilibrium radius of an aqueous solution drop at fractional relative humidity h less than unity is analyzed mathematically. Expressions for the lowest-order corrections to the equilibrium radius and radius ratio (relative to the volume-equivalent dry radius r dry ) due to ...

An examination of Köhler theory resulting in an accurate expression for the equilibrium radius ratio of a hygroscopic aerosol particle valid up to and including relative humidity 100%

Journal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, 2008
The equilibrium hygroscopic behavior of an aqueous solution drop is investigated using the Köhler model to relate the radius ratio ξ ≡ r/rdry, where rdry is the volume‐equivalent dry radius, and the fractional relative humidity h. The Köhler equation is derived and results obtained from it are presented for three situations: when the effect of surface ...

Adsorption equilibrium of water vapor on activated carbon and alumina and carbon and alumina impregnated with hygroscopic salt

2013
The adsorption equilibrium of water vapor on different adsorbent materials has been studied. Small grains of commercial activated carbon and alumina, with a diameter of d(g) = 1.5 x 10(-3) m, were impregnated with a hygroscopic salt (calcium chloride) to improve the performance of these materials. The main characteristics of the new composite materials
