We demonstrate that the equilibrium hygroscopic response of an aerosol droplet and the kinetics of water condensation and evaporation can be retrieved with high accuracy, even close to saturation, through comparative measurements of probe and sample aerosol droplets.

30—HEAT AND MOISTURE EXCHANGE IN WOOL BEDS: EQUILIBRIUM THEORY IN THE HYGROSCOPIC RANGE
The Journal of The Textile Institute, 1972Cassie's theory of propagation of heat and moisture changes in beds of wool fibres is re-examined by means of the method of characteristics. Substantial differences result in the predictions of the theory by treating the coefficients of the pertinent differential equations as functions of the dependent variables rather than as constants.

Theoretical analysis shows that when water activity is larger than its threshold value and the dry radius of a particle is larger than 0.005 μm, the deviation of curvature correction from unity can be accurately represented by the product of two terms, with one term strongly depending upon water activity and the other depending upon dry radius ...

The behavior of moisture gain and equilibrium moisture content (EMC) was determined for 30 drug substances at relative humidities (RH) ranging from 11% to 93%. Based on the results, the drugs were categorized into different classes, following the classification system proposed by Callahan et al.

Effects of Non-Equilibrium Hygroscopic Growth of (NH4)2SO4 on Dry Deposition to Water Surfaces
Environmental Science & Technology, 1998Growth of hygroscopic aerosols near water surfaces is believed to enhance dry deposition rates, which are a strong function of particle size. Previous dry deposition models estimate hygroscopic growth by assuming equilibrium between aerosols and water vapor (Williams, R. M. Atmos. Environ. 1982, 16, 1933-1938).

Abstract The effect of surface tension (the Kelvin effect) on the equilibrium radius of an aqueous solution drop at fractional relative humidity h less than unity is analyzed mathematically. Expressions for the lowest-order corrections to the equilibrium radius and radius ratio (relative to the volume-equivalent dry radius r dry ) due to ...
