The Water Desorption Curves of Tobacco / Über die Wasserdesorption des Tabaks

open access: yesContributions to Tobacco and Nicotine Research, 1968
The evolution of the desorption curves of different Greek cigarette brands at a relative humidity of air of above 5 % is presented by means of the formula established by Brunauer, Emmet and Teller.

3D Experimental investigation of the hygro-mechanical behaviour of wood at cellular and sub-cellular scale: detection of local deformations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The swelling/shrinkage of spruce wood samples (Picea Abies) is documented with high resolution XRay Tomography and advanced image analysis tools. We report the reversible moisture-induced global and local deformations at the cellular and sub-cellular ...

Fabrication of Composite Cathode for All‐Solid‐State Sodium Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
The design of composite cathodes for all‐solid‐state sodium batteries must address three critical challenges—interfacial side reactions, interfacial delamination, and highly tortuous transport pathways. This work outlines structural and interfacial strategies to optimize ion transport and mechanical stability, enabling durable, and high‐performance ...

Comprehensive Simultaneous Shipboard and Airborne Characterization of Exhaust from a Modern Container Ship at Sea [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We report the first joint shipboard and airborne study focused on the chemical composition and water-uptake behavior of particulate ship emissions. The study focuses on emissions from the main propulsion engine of a Post-Panamax class container ship ...

Modeling and Characterization of a Self‐Sensing Soft Hydraulic Muscle

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This article presents the self‐sensing soft hydraulic muscle (SSHM), a novel soft actuator capable of simultaneously sensing force and length without external sensors. A comprehensive model accurately predicts SSHM behavior, validated experimentally with minimal errors. Using propylene glycol enhances durability and reduces hysteresis.
