Hygroscopic Materials

Advanced Materials, 2023
Water in its gaseous form, i.e., moisture, is pervasive in the atmosphere. Almost all materials naturally exhibit either weak or strong affinity to moisture via physical adsorption within porous structures or chemical absorption through spontaneous hydration reactions, which is a property known as hygroscopicity.

Aerosol Hygroscopicity

2022
The hygroscopic and ice nucleation properties play a vital role for the direct and indirect effects of aerosols on climate by determining the interactions of aerosol particles with atmospheric water vapour, ice and cloud microphysical processes. This chapter reviews the existing published results on the aerosol hygroscopic properties at subsaturated ...

Neonatal hygroscopic condenser humidifier

Critical Care Medicine, 1987
A hygroscopic condenser humidifier was developed for neonates on mechanical ventilation and was evaluated by laboratory tests and clinically. Humidification provided by the unit was measured in the 10- to 50-ml tidal-volume range at ambient temperatures of 24 degrees C and 38 degrees C.

Modified hygroscopic gold casting technique

The Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, 1975
A modified hygrosopic gold casting technique has been described. It utilizes a dual-wax pattern with controlled amounts of water added to the setting investment to better influence both the location and amount of investment expansion. This technique has been used since 1970 with excellent clinical results.

Hygroscopic Crystals

Workshop on Optical Fabrication and Testing, 1982
Hygroscopic crystals present unique handling, polishing, coating and storing problems. However, the increasing use of these crystals in electro-optics and in harmonic generation and mixing, has led to advances in fabrication techniques.
