Hygrothermal ageing of epoxy based coatings

Journal of Materials Science, 1982
Water sorption kinetics, and equilibria at different temperatures, and mechanical tests have been performed on different epoxy based coatings. The resins show different water transport properties and consequently different mechanical properties of the wet system, depending on the temperature and formulation.

Effect of Hygrothermal Aging on Polyetherimide Composites

Journal of Reinforced Plastics and Composites, 2007
The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of hygrothermal aging on both the static and thermo-mechanical behavior of polyetherimide composites. Tensile testing and dynamic mechanical thermal analysis were performed on the hygrothermally aged polyetherimide composites in the climatic cabin. The decrease in the T

Durability of GFRP nanocomposites subjected to hygrothermal ageing

Composites Part B: Engineering, 2015
Abstract This paper presents long term durability prediction of 0–5 wt.% nanoclay/vinylester/glass fibre nanocomposites based on their tensile strength retention in accelerated hygrothermal ageing using Arrhenius rate model. The specimens were exposed to 30 °C, 50 °C and 60 °C and 95% relative humidity for 75 days and tested for tensile strength ...

Moisture absorption and hygrothermal aging in a bismaleimide resin

Polymer, 2001
Moisture diffusion in a BMI resin has been investigated by submerging thin specimens in water. The weight gain of the neat resin deviates significantly from Fick's law in that the uptake continues to slowly increase over an extended time scale. A two-stage diffusion model can successfully fit the experimental data.

Investigations on hygrothermal aging of thermoplastic polyurethane material

Materials & Design, 2009
Abstract In this investigation, the absorption and diffusion of water in thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) was studied. Water-sorption experiments, physical and mechanical property tests were performed after immersion in water at a set temperature of 70 °C for up to 6 months.

Hygrothermal aging of an adhesive reinforced with microparticles of cork

Journal of Adhesion Science and Technology, 2015
In the present study, natural microparticles of cork are used with the objective to increase the toughness of a brittle epoxy adhesive. The cork particles act as a crack stopper, leading to more energy absorption. This fact occurs because cork presents a remarkable combination of properties (low density, low cost and sustainability of the raw material).

Hygrothermal Aging of Silane-Laced Epoxy Coatings

Journal of Adhesion Science and Technology, 2010
Abstract The impact of silane on the hygrothermal stability of epoxy coatings was investigated by specular neu-tron reflectivity (NR). By comparing the hygrothermal degradation behavior of neat novolac epoxy coatingand corresponding bis[3-(triethoxysilyl)propyl]tetrasulfide-laced epoxy coating, the role of silane was elu-cidated.

The Hygrothermal Aging Life Models of Solid Propellant

Advanced Materials Research, 2012
The temperature and humidity are two main environmental factors, which have influence on the life of solid propellant. Comparing with single factor aging life model, hygrothermal aging life model is more feasible, which takes temperature and humidity into consideration. In this paper two hygrothermal aging life models were established.

Aging characteristics of epoxy resin in hygrothermal environment

2017 International Symposium on Electrical Insulating Materials (ISEIM), 2017
Because of excellent electrical properties, epoxy resin is widely used in packaging and casting power equipment. Moisture and temperature in the environment are inclined to seriously affect the insulation tolerance of epoxy resin. This work focuses on the aging characteristics of epoxy resin in hygrothermal environment. The effect of hygrothermal aging

Durability of hygrothermally aged graphite/epoxy woven composite under combined hygrothermal conditions

International Journal of Fatigue, 2002
Abstract The objective of this study was to examine the effects of hygrothermal aging on the durability of a graphite/epoxy woven composite material system. The study was part of a larger project in which the objective was to evaluate and model the effects of moisture, temperature, and combined hygrothermal conditions on the strength and life of a ...
