Breaking the norm: Absence of seed size/seed number trade‐off in Hymanaea stigonocarpa, a tree species from the Brazilian semi‐arid

open access: yesPlant Species Biology, Volume 40, Issue 5, Page 472-482, September 2025.
Seed size/number trade‐off is a central topic in plant biology as it reflects ecological and evolutionary aspects of the species. Here we report the absence of a trade‐off mass/number of seeds and fruits in a polyspermic plant probably associated to abortion of self‐pollinated pistils and flowers.

COSST: A tool to facilitate seed provenancing for climate‐smart ecosystem restoration

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 62, Issue 3, Page 677-688, March 2025.
Our tool can guide where to source seeds for species lacking range‐wide information on genetic structure, which is the case for a substantial proportion of the tropical flora, where ecosystem restoration is of paramount importance. Abstract Selecting the best seed sources is a key step in ecological restoration planning especially under climate change.

Structure and Absolute Configuration of Diterpenoids from Hymenaea stigonocarpa

open access: yes, 2015
Chemical investigations of the ethanolic extracts from the flowers and leaves of Hymenaea stigonocarpa Mart. ex Hayne afforded one new ent-halimane diterpenoid, 18-hydroxy-ent-halima-1(10),13-(E)-dien-15-oic acid (1), together with five known compounds ...

Linking Seed Size and Thermal Tolerance in Seed Germination of Hymenaea stigonocarpa, a Fire-Prone Neotropical Savanna Tree

open access: yesSeeds
The Neotropical Savanna (Cerrado) is a fire-prone biome characterized by seasonal climate, nutrient-poor soils, and variable fire regimes. While fire-induced germination responses are well documented in Cerrado plants, the role of seed size in mediating ...

Antiproliferative effect of the hydroalcoholic extract of Hymenaea stigonocarpa Mart. ex Hayne (Fabaceae, Caesalpinioideae) on the meristematic cells of Allium cepa L. roots

open access: yesBiotemas, 2014
This study evaluates the hydroalcoholic extract obtained from the cork cambium of Hymenaea stigonocarpa (jatobá-do-cerrado) on the meristematic cells of Allium cepa roots, at 3 concentrations, 0.5, 1.0, and 1.5 mg/mL, and 2 exposure times, 24 h and 48 h.
