Too cold to handle: Climatic constraints on arboreal ants in temperate forests
By comparing fine‐scale microclimatic temperatures and ant thermal tolerances over a seasonal cycle, we found evidence to support 150+ years of previously untested conventional wisdom and the hypothesis that winter cold and not summer heat likely limit arboreal diversity in temperate forests.

Expression of the melittin gene of Apis cerana cerana (Hymenoptera: Apidae) in insect cells
A fragment encoding melittin cDNA from Apis cerana cerana fused with glutathione S-transferase gene was inserted into the multiple cloning site of the pBacFastHTb to construct a recombinant donor plasmid, pBacHT-GSTAccM, which was transposed to the ...

Nest architecture of Oxaea austera (Andrenidae, Oxaeinae) and its significance for the interpretation of Uruguayan fossil bee cells [PDF]
Oxaea austera nests in hard, red lateritic soils with dense grass cover. Some characters of Oxaea austera nests conform to the known architecture of the oxaeine nests such as the long, vertical shaft and the radiating, horizontal tunnels connected to ...

Biological Flora of Britain and Ireland: Cytisus scoparius*
Broom is an attractive and common native plant across Britain, Ireland and most of Europe, and yet it is considered a harmful and invasive weed around the rest of the world. This is aided by broom thriving on poor dry soils, helped by using green stems for photosynthesis and having root nodules to fix nitrogen.
