Stomatogenesis during the formation of the tomite of Hyalophysa chattoni (Hymenostomatida: Ciliophora) [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Protistology, 1997
Summary The functioning oral apparatus of the feeding stage of Hyalophysa chattoni Bradbury, 1966 , arises from pre-existing structures in the tomite that change their form and position during a metamorphosis to the trophont. These structures are the relic of a microstome oral apparatus in the non-feeding tomite.

Effects of different malachite green derivatives and metabolites on the fish ectoparasite, Ichthyophthirius multifiliis, Fouquet 1876 (Hymenostomatida, Ciliophora) [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Protistology, 1997
Summary For the control of fish ectoparasites malachite green is one of the most important fishtherapeutics. This triphenyl-methane dye exists in different derivatives, in the acid pH-range as the coloured salt, in the basic range as the carbinolbase and as the reduced leuco-compound.

Frontonia lynni n. sp., a new marine ciliate (Protozoa, Ciliophora, Hymenostomatida) from Qingdao, China [PDF]

open access: yesZootaxa, 2005
The morphology, infraciliature and silverline system of a new marine ciliate, Frontonia lynni n. sp., isolated from a sandy beach at Qingdao, China, was investigated using live observation and silver staining methods. The new species is recognized by the combination of the following characters: body about 100–210 x 70–150 µm in vivo, elliptical in ...

Salinity acclimation of euryhaline infusoria Paramecium calkinski and P. woodruffi (Ciliophora, Hymenostomatida) [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
The upper levels of salinity tolerance (assumed as 100% survival) after 48 h exposition were 12 and 13‰ in two the White Sea P. calkinski clones and 18‰ in one P. woodruffi clone from the Barents Sea coast. After carrying infusoria from the control medium (practically fresh water) into media of 8.5 and 12‰ salinity (P. calkinski) and 8.5 and 17(20)‰ (P.
