Hyperbaric Oxygen Techniques

Archives of Dermatology, 1984
To the Editor.— The article by Heng et al 1 in the MayArchivesmakes me wonder what advantage there is to topical "hyperbaric" oxygen over simple topical ambient pressure oxygen (bag unpressurized). Henry's law states that the diffusion of a gas into a liquid (in this case, oxygen into the wound surface) is directly proportional to its partial pressure.

Cerebellum and hyperbaric oxygen

Electroencephalography and Clinical Neurophysiology, 1968
Abstract This research analyzed the role of the cerebellum in the mechanism of the start and development of hyperoxic seizures in unrestrained, unanesthetized rats. In a first group of animals the behavior of the electrical activity of the cerebellum during hyperbaric oxygen (5 atm. abs. for 2–4 h) was investigated.

Hyperbaric oxygen treatment

Annals of Neurology, 2013
As a senior clinician involved in the largest randomized trial of hyperbaric oxygen treatment (HBOT) for children with cerebral palsy (CP) as well as in the previous pilot study on the same subject, I would like to comment on the editorial by Novak and Badawi 3 published in Annals of Neurology. Based on the studies by Collet et al and Lacey et al, they

Hyperbaric oxygen in neurosurgery

Acta Neurochirurgica, 2009
The therapeutic use of pure oxygen, even under hyperbaric conditions, has been well established for about 50 years, whereas the discovery of oxygen occurred 250 years earlier. Many neurosurgical patients suffer from brain tissue damage, due to reduced blood flow, obstructive vessel disease, or as a result of traumatic brain injury. The application of ...

Genotoxicity of hyperbaric oxygen

Mutation Research/Reviews in Mutation Research, 2002
Hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) treatment is applied as a therapy for a wide variety of diseases with symptoms caused by lack of oxygen in the target tissues. However, it is known that exposure to high concentrations of oxygen may lead to oxidative stress and cause cell and tissue damage.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

AJN, American Journal of Nursing, 1981
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBO) is the administration of 100 percent oxygen at greater than normal atmospheric pressure. It is administered in a hyperbaric chamber. It is the primary treatment modality for acute carbon monoxide poisoning, acute gas embolism, and decompression sickness and is used as adjunctive treatment for compromised skin grafts, gas

Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatment

Developmental Medicine & Child Neurology, 1969
SUMMARYA preliminary study of the effect of exposing infected meningomyelocele to humidified pure oxygen under a pressure of 22 mm. Hg./l ‐03 atmospheres absolute, at a flow‐rate of 1 to 4 litres per minute, indicates that leakage of cerebrospinal fluid is stopped, bacterial growth is inhibited and granulation and epithelium formation are stimulated ...
