Invariant and smooth limit of discrete geometry folded from bistable origami leading to multistable metasurfaces

open access: yesNature Communications, 2019
The mechanisms behind origami having saddle shapes made from concentrically pleated squares remain elusive. Here, the authors connect geometry and mechanics to show that this type of origami is invariantly a hyperbolic paraboloid that exhibits ...

Synchronization‐Dissipation in the Cardiorespiratory System

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
By modeling central nervous coupling and viscoelastic interactions in the cardiorespiratory system we show that synchronization produces a 10% gain in cardiac efficiency in humans. It is surmised that respiratory sinus arrhythmia improves cardiac pumping efficiency by reducing dynamic stress and power dissipation in the pulmonary vasculature.

Hyperbolic geometry [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
In this thesis, we study some aspects of hyperbolic geometry in two different models, namely the disk and upper-half plane models. Although the models are different as sets, we show that they both carry the hyperbolic structure.

Revisiting Target‐Aware de novo Molecular Generation with TarPass: Between Rational Design and Texas Sharpshooter

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
TarPass provides a rigorous benchmark for target‐aware de novo molecular generation by jointly evaluating protein‐ligand interactions, molecular plausibility, and drug‐likeness on 18 well‐studied targets. Results show that current models often fail to consistently surpass random baseline in target‐specific enrichment, while post hoc multi‐tier virtual ...

Triangles in Hyperbolic Geometry [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Euclid introduced five postulates as the fundamentals for the study of geometry. Over time his fifth postulate has been singled out as the most controversial. In fact, mathematicians have attempted unsuccessfully to prove this postulate, aka the parallel

Hyperbolic Casimir-like wormhole

open access: yesEuropean Physical Journal C: Particles and Fields
We present a systematic study of exact solutions for traversable wormhole geometries in a static and hyperbolic symmetric spacetime. In the conventional form of studying wormhole geometry, traversability requires the presence of exotic matter, which also

Data‐Driven Modeling of Composition–Processing–Microstructure Relations for Recycled Aluminum Cast Alloys

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Interpretable machine learning reveals how composition and processing govern the formation and microstructural burden of Fe‐rich intermetallic compounds in recycled Al–Si–Fe–Mn alloys. By separating morphology selection from morphology‐conditioned burden partitioning, this framework shows that identical Fe contents can yield different intermetallic ...

Mathematical model for highly sensitive photonic crystal fiber sensor based on hyperbolic black holes

open access: yesScientific Reports
In this paper, the photonic crystal fiber sensor based on the geometry of hyperbolic black holes is proposed. As the hyperbolic black hole concentrates the electromagnetic radiation in its powerful gravitational field, the designed sensor has resulted in

SpaMode: A Broadly Applicable Framework for Deciphering Spatial Multi‐Omics Using Multimodal Mixture of Disentangled Experts

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
SpaMode introduces a versatile framework for spatial multi‐omics integration across vertical, horizontal, and mosaic scenarios. By disentangling modality‐invariant and variant features through a mixture‐of‐experts mechanism, it adaptively reconfigures spatially heterogeneous signals.
