Duality and Symmetry in the Hypergeometric Distribution [PDF]
A CNN posting on the internet [1] reports that the 1996 trial of a rap star on manslaughter charges resulted in a hung jury. The posting says that the jury was composed of 7 men and 5 women and was hung at 9 to 3. Not reported is how many men or women voted with the majority. Several interesting probability problems come to mind.

The generalized hypergeometric family of distributions
Annals of the Institute of Statistical Mathematics, 1981This is an expository summary of the authors' report on classification of the generalized hypergeometric (GHg for short) family of distributions (Sibuya and Shimizu (1981),Keio Science and Technology Report, to appear). Emphasis is laid on the definition of the distributions based on some conventional rules, and on the complete classification of the ...

for the Hypergeometric Distribution
, 2014This paper gives an improved binomial distribution with parameters m and p to approximate the hypergeometric distribution with parameters N, m and n, where = n N p and m < n. It is more accurate than the binomial approximation when N is large.

Hypergeometric Distribution: Introduction
, 2014For a finite population of subjects of two types, suppose we select a random sample without replacement. The probability distribution of the number in the sample of one of the two types is the hypergeometric distribution.

Transform methods for the hypergeometric distribution
Statistics and Computing, 2004Two new methods for computing with hypergeometric distributions on lattice points are presented. One uses Fourier analysis, and the other uses Grobner bases in the Weyl algebra. Both are very general and apply to log-linear models that are graphical or non-graphical.

In this article, we propose a new monotonically decreasing count model which includes Gauss hypergeometric function and is suitable for Zero vertex, over dispersed dataset. Though the proposed model includes Gauss hypergeometric function, nevertheless it
