Chemische Berichte, 1958AbstractEs wird gezeigt, daß die beiden Emodin‐anthron‐(9)‐Reste des Penicilliopsins an den C‐Atomen 8 und 8′ verknüpft sind und Penicilliopsin demnach Diemodin‐anthron‐(9.9′)‐yl‐(8.8′) ist. Penicilliopsin läßt sich durch Chromsäureoxydation in Skyrin und durch Dehydrierung mit Luftsauerstoff in Protohypericin überführen.

Potentiation of the Photodynamic Action of Hypericin

In photodynamic diagnosis (PDD) of bladder cancer using HY, very high sensitivity and specificity were reported, in comparison with its counterpart, 5-aminolevulinic acid (5-ALA).

Exploring Modes of Photokilling by Hypericin
Photochemistry and Photobiology, 2020AbstractEffects of photodynamic therapy (PDT) using the anthraquinone hypericin were explored with OVCAR‐5 cells in vitro. Irradiation resulted in ER > lysosomal photodamage. Paraptosis was identified as a primary death pathway resulting from ER perturbation. This is characterized by an extensive pattern of cytoplasmic vacuole formation.

Effect of Acetazolamide on Hypericin Photocytotoxicity
Planta Medica, 2002The photodynamic action of hypericin (HYP) in vitro was evaluated using human leukemic HL-60 and lung carcinoma A549 cell lines. After illumination HYP (1 x 10 (-5) M) reduced the proliferation and/or survival of HL-60 and A549 cells vs. controls to almost to 0 % and 29 %, respectively.

Journal of Photochemistry and Photobiology B: Biology, 1996Sensitization of post-irradiation (delayed) photohemolysis (DPH) and "during irradiation" (continuous) photohemolysis (CPH) were investigated for sodium hypericin and Photofrin. The photohemolysis rate and relative steepness of the photohemolysis curves were measured for a range of sensitizer concentrations and DPH irradiation times.
