Phronimidae (Amphipoda, Hyperiidea) of the South Pacific Ocean
Crustaceana, 1971[Dans le present memoire est etudiee la collection de phronimides que l'expedition americaine de recherche sur l'Antarctique a rapportee du sud de l'ocean Pacifique, y compris le secteur du Pacifique de l'ocean Antarctique. Une nouvelle forme de mâle du genre Phronima est decrite.

Species of the Phronimidae were studied for the micromorphology of their pereopods. Novel structures were found on the dactyls and are described in detail. A hypothesis is advanced that these structures serve also for external digestion and absorption of the tissues of their gelatinous plankton hosts.

Journal of Experimental Marine Biology and Ecology, 1978Abstract Several pelagic animals have been postulated as the source of the transparent ‘barrel’ in which Phronima sedentaria (Forsk.) lives. It has been commonly held, although not on good evidence, that they are derived from tunicates. Many barrels, however, do not bear a close resemblance with the group most frequently proposed, pyrosomes.

1993During the zooplankton survey of Waltaircoast somehyperiidean amphipods were encountered. Eightspecies belonging to five families and eight genera are described. The occurrence and distribution of these species were discussed.

Crustaceana, 1996[The status of Typhis rapax H. Milne Edwards, 1830, has been uncertain due to the brief original description and lack of illustrations. Stephensen (1925) having examined a specimen labeled T. rapax, presumably from the collection of Milne Edwards, determined that it was the same as Hemityphis tenuimanus Claus, 1879.
