Hand-made hyperlinks are increasingly outnumbered by automatically generated links, which are usually based on text similarity or some sort of recommendation algorithm. In this paper we explore the current linking and appreciation of automatically generated links.

Spatial Hyperlink, a telecommunications art installation, explores an ideal social interaction. The work encourages viewers' awareness of others' psychological states via speaking boxes through which images and sounds can be transmitted over unknown distances. Devices installed in different places become a giant communication network. Users are able to

Online, hyperlinks connect not just related information, but people who relate to one another. In this talk I will discuss the many dimensions and uses of the social hyperlink across a variety of online communities. Sometimes it is the information that brings the people together, as they are seeking answers to questions, or seeking to answer questions.

We propose a new mechanism for implicitly specifying hyperlinks in HTML documents using indices. Indices are dictionaries that associate keys (words or phrases) with one or more attributes. Indices maintain these key/attribute bindings over all or part of a document, and are used by browsers to create hyperlinks dynamically.

This paper describes the Scalable Hyperlink Store, a distributed in-memory "database" for storing large portions of the web graph. SHS is an enabler for research on structural properties of the web graph as well as new link-based ranking algorithms. Previous work on specialized hyperlink databases focused on finding efficient compression algorithms for
