Immediate hypersensitivity to cephalosporins

Allergy, 2002
Like penicillins, cephalosporins may provoke allergic reactions, especially IgE-mediated ones, such as urticaria and anaphylactic shock. They may occur because of sensitization to determinants shared with penicillins or to unique cephalosporin haptens.

The History of Immediate Hypersensitivity

Hospital Practice, 1989
Reports of the phenomenon date back to antiquity. In this century the focus has been its molecular basis. Recent developments include identification of IgE and an enhanced understanding of how B cells are turned to produce reagin antibodies and how mast cells react.

IgE and Immediate Hypersensitivity

Dermatologic Clinics, 1990
Tissue mast cells play a central role in immediate hypersensitivity reactions. The clinical manifestations of these reactions appear to be dependent, in large part, on the anatomic location of the stimulated mast cells and the type of mediators released.

Immediate hypersensitivity reaction to cyclophosphamide

Arthritis & Rheumatism, 1994
AbstractWe report a case of an acute anaphylactic reaction to intravenous cyclophosphamide in a patient with systemic lupus erythematosus. Skin testing for reactivity to cyclophosphamide and one of its metabolites, 4‐hydroperoxycyclophosphamide, was performed on the patient and on 6 controls.

In Vitro Tests for Immediate Hypersensitivity

Annual Review of Medicine, 1988
In vitro measurement of IgE antibodies in serum has an established role in the study of allergic disease, but the place of in vitro tests in routine diagnosis is not well established. They are particularly helpful in confirming new allergens in the workplace and in situations where skin testing is potentially dangerous or technically not feasible.
