Hypersensitivity pneumonitis is a syndrome caused by sensitization to any of a wide variety of environmental antigens and results in a pulmonary immunologic inflammatory process. The clinical syndrome occurs in a temporal relationship to exposure to the offending agent with resultant systemic or respiratory symptoms with defined chest radiographic and ...

IT was reported in 19571 that a single administration of insulin renders the rat more sensitive to the inflammation produced by injections of egg white or dextran. The mechanism by which insulin exerts this effect is not known, and we have now studied this problem.

Hypersensitivity pneumonitis, a disease caused by repetitive inhalation of nonviable organic dust, is increasingly recognized as a cause of acute and chronic lung disease in both children and adults. Twenty-one of 32 children and adults who went on a hay ride in Arkansas developed this disease. These cases are reported.

Hypersensitivity to ethambutol
Tubercle, 1981Abstract A patient is described who developed an acute hypersensitivity reaction one week after starting treatment for tuberculosis. The reaction was probably to ethambutol and it recurred when this drug was re-introduced 3 weeks later. Hypersensitivity to ethambutol is exceptionally rare.

A 28-year-old nurse experienced collapse and generalized urticaria while she was undergoing a gastroscopy for suspected Helicobacter pylori infection. Before the start of the procedure, lidocaine (lignocaine) oral spray and 10 mg intravenous diazepam was administered; in addition, 1 mg flumazenil was given intravenously at the end of gastroscopy.

Hypersensitivity pneumonitis represents a disease spectrum and not a single pulmonary disorder. Both acute and chronic forms of disease occur and presumably reflect different yet interrelated immune mechanisms of pathogenesis. The diagnosis of hypersensitivity pneumonitis, although often straightforward, may depend on the use of immunologic and ...

Treatment of HIV-1 infections with nevirapine is associated with skin and liver toxicity. These two organ toxicities range from mild to severe, in rare cases resulting in life-threatening liver failure or toxic epidermal necrolysis. The study of the mechanistic steps leading to nevirapine-induced skin rash has been facilitated by the discovery of an ...

Hypersensitivity to trimethoprim
Allergy, 1992We present two patients who experienced life‐threatening immediate reactions and one patient who developed generalized urticaria following oral administration of trimethoprim (TMP) and sulfamethoxazole (SMX) combination. Skin prick tests with TMP were positive in the three patients. No patients reacted to skin prick tests with SMX.
