Investigation on the Opposing Jet in the Hypersonic Rarefied Flow over a Vehicle Based on the DSMC Method

open access: yesActuators, 2022
In this paper, an opposing jet is applied to the space shuttle arc leading edge and the lifting body cone leading edge in the hypersonic condition of the rarefied flow field.

Rare‐Earth–Sulfur Surface Modification Enables SiC Ceramics for Low‐Frequency Electromagnetic Wave Absorption in Extreme Environments

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
By altering surface chemical bonds to prolong relaxation time and shift absorption to lower frequencies, SiC/rare earth–sulfur (RE─S, RE = La, Ce, Pr, Sm, Gd, Er) materials achieve excellent low‐frequency electromagnetic wave absorption under extreme conditions, offering a new direction for designing high‐performance SiC‐based absorbers.

The Effects of Compression Direction on the Performance of a Two-Dimensional Inlet Mounted on the Aft Body

open access: yesApplied Sciences
The aft-body mounted inlet of a hypersonic vehicle has garnered attention for its potential to shorten the propulsion system. This study aims to explore the influence of compression direction on the performance of the hypersonic inlet attached to the ...

Mach 4 Simulating Experiment of Pre-Cooled Turbojet Engine Using Liquid Hydrogen

open access: yesAerospace, 2022
This study investigated a pre-cooled turbojet engine for a Mach 5 class hypersonic transport aircraft. The engine was demonstrated under takeoff and Mach 2 flight conditions, and a Mach 5 propulsion wind tunnel test is planned.

The importance of biodiversity components differs among wood‐based material Nature's contributions to people (NCP) in a tropical montane ecosystem

open access: yesOikos, EarlyView.
Biodiversity can influence forest productivity, but this does not necessarily translate into higher provision of wood‐based Nature's contributions to people (NCP), as only a subset of the wood produced is used for each NCP. Biodiversity–NCP relationships therefore require further assessment.

Sliding Mode Control in Aerospace Applications: A Survey

open access: yesInternational Journal of Robust and Nonlinear Control, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Sliding mode control (SMC) enjoys robustness to matched and unmatched (in the case of minimum phase input‐output dynamics) bounded perturbations, and finite time convergence. Second‐order and higher‐order sliding mode control systems (2‐SMC/HOSMC) retain all the advantages of sliding mode control, but in addition can be applied to systems of ...

A “Tech First” Approach to Foreign Policy? The Three Meanings of Tech Diplomacy

open access: yesGlobal Policy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Scholars have recently argued that international politics is plagued by instability as the world rapidly transitions from one crisis to another. This state of “Permacrisis,” or permanent crises between states, is driven by technological innovations which create new kinds of crises and drive competitions between adversarial states.

Evolving Geopolitics and Japan's Economic Security–Trade Nexus: ‘New Capitalism’ as a Balancing Act?

open access: yesGlobal Policy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Amid intensifying geopolitical tensions, governments increasingly perceive economic interdependence as a strategic vulnerability. Japan, situated geopolitically between two great powers—the United States and China—attempts to navigate geopolitics by prioritising economic security.

Study of an adaptive bump control mechanism for shock wave/boundary layer interactions in supersonic flows

open access: yesTheoretical and Applied Mechanics Letters
The stability of supersonic inlets faces challenges due to various changes in flight conditions, and flow control methods that address shock wave/boundary layer interactions under only one set of conditions cannot meet developmental requirements.
