An aeroacoustic mechanism to explain universal behavior in hypersonic wake flow oscillations [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Recent experimental studies reveal that the near-wake region of a circular cylinder at hypersonic Mach numbers exhibits self-sustained flow oscillations. The oscillation frequency was found to have a universal behavior. Experimental observations suggest an aeroacoustic feedback loop to be the driving mechanism of oscillations.

Fusion DeepONet: A Data-Efficient Neural Operator for Geometry-Dependent Hypersonic Flows on Arbitrary Grids [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Designing re-entry vehicles requires accurate predictions of hypersonic flow around their geometry. Rapid prediction of such flows can revolutionize vehicle design, particularly for morphing geometries. We evaluate advanced neural operator models such as Deep Operator Networks (DeepONet), parameter-conditioned U-Net, Fourier Neural Operator (FNO), and ...

Computer-aided space shuttle orbiter wing design study [PDF]

open access: yes
An analytical and experimental investigation has been made to provide a space shuttle orbiter wing design that met the guideline requirements of landing performance, stability, and hypersonic trim for a specified center-of-gravity envelope.
