A rare cause of hypocalcemia [PDF]

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Case Reports, 2013
Many factors influence serum calcium concentration, but the major determinants of calcium homeostatsis are parathyroid hormone (PTH), vitamin D, the ionized calcium, and phosphate [1]. Therefore, deranged calcium metabolism is often seen in the presence of disordered parathyroid hormone (PTH) and/or vitamin D actions.

Efficacy of Ultrasound-guided Radiofrequency Ablation of Parathyroid Hyperplasia: Single Session vs. Two-Session for Effect on Hypocalcemia

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2020
To evaluate safety and efficacy of one- vs. two-session radiofrequency ablation (RFA) of parathyroid hyperplasia for patients with secondary hyperparathyroidism (SHPT) and to compare the outcome of both methods on hypocalcemia.

Systematic review of locking solutions for non‐tunneled hemodialysis catheters

open access: yesHemodialysis International, Volume 27, Issue 1, Page 12-20, January 2023., 2023
Abstract Background We conducted a systematic review of studies investigating lock solutions for use in non‐tunneled hemodialysis catheters. Methods We searched PubMed and Cochrane databases from inception to June 11, 2021. Study inclusion criteria were: randomized trial or observational study, adults (>18 years), with acute kidney injury (AKI); and ...

Preoperative vitamin D level as a post-total thyroidectomy hypocalcemia predictor: a prospective study

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Otorhinolaryngology, 2021
Introduction: Hypocalcemia is one of the most common complications after total thyroidectomy. Preoperative serum vitamin D concentration has been postulated as a risk factor for this complication.

Hidden Hypocalcemia as a Risk Factor for Cardiovascular Events and All-Cause Mortality among Patients Undergoing Incident Hemodialysis

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2020
Lower corrected calcium (cCa) levels are associated with a better prognosis among incident dialysis patients. However, cCa frequently overestimates ionized calcium (iCa) levels.

Lactobacillus johnsonii Generates Cyclo(pro‐trp) and Promotes Intestinal Ca2+ Absorption to Alleviate CKD–SHPT

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The mechanism map of how L.johnsonii generates cyclo(pro‐trp) to alleviate CKD–SHPT by promoting the expression of CaSR and TRPV4 in IECs, enhancing Ca2+ absorption, and negatively feedback inhibiting iPTH secretion. Abstract Patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) are at a high risk of developing secondary hyperparathyroidism (SHPT), which may ...
