Measuring Hypocotyl Length in Arabidopsis
2021Circadian clocks allow organisms to synchronize growth to occur at the most optimal time of the day. In plants, the circadian clock controls the timing of hypocotyl (seedling stem) elongation. The activity of the circadian clock subsequently results in hypocotyl elongation being restricted to a small window around dawn and the early morning.

Auxin-regulated gene expression in intact soybean hypocotyl and excised hypocotyl sections
Planta, 1984A library of complementary DNA (cDNA) clones has been prepared from polyadenylated RNA (poly(A)(+)RNA) from auxin (2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid)-treated soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merr. cv. Wayne) seedlings. Using differential hybridization, four clones were selected as auxin-responsive, and characterized. The levels of the RNA sequences homologous to

KINEMATICS OF HYPOCOTYL CURVATURE
American Journal of Botany, 1978Time lapse photographs were analyzed for curvature, κ, of the plumular hook as a function of distance from the apex, s, of seedlings of lettuce. Lactuca sativa cv ‘Grand Rapids,‘ during hook maintenance (red light) and hook opening (white light). Curvature of the inner edge of the photographic projection of the hook increases from 0.14 mm–1 near the ...

Pest Management Science, 2000
Effects of auxinic herbicides on growth/development, ethylene biosynthesis and gene expression were studied in Sinapis arvensis as well as wild type, auxin-resistant and ethylene-insensitive lines of Arabidopsis thaliana. Expansion of the radius of the root/hypocotyl and inhibition of root and hypocotyl elongation were observed in seedlings of S ...

Auxin carriers in membranes of lupin hypocotyls
Planta, 1986The pH-driven accumulation of [(3)H]indolyl-3-acetic acid (IAA) has been found to occur in membrane vesicles of lupin (Lupinus albus L.) hypocotyls. Most of this association of auxin with membranes is very sensitive to osmotic shock, high concentrations of permeable weak acids, incubation at 20° C for 20 min and to some ionophores.
