Transactions of the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers, 1955 Relating to the peculiarities of hypoid gears the writer made it clear that : (1) The surface of meshing (the plane in spur gears and the sphere in bevel gears) does not exist in hypoid gears. (2) There are infinite pitch lines between a pair of hypoid gears.
