Despite advances in surgical and nonsurgical treatment, overall survival rates for patients who have hypopharyngeal carcinoma have not improved, and this disease still has a poor prognosis. The best results are obtained with multimodality therapy. but at best, two thirds of patients are palliated rather than cured of disease.

Angiosarcoma of the hypopharynx
The Journal of Laryngology & Otology, 1994AbstractAngiosarcoma is a tumour of endothelial origin rarely found in the head and neck. A case of angiosarcoma of the pyriform sinus, treated by surgery and post-operative radiotherapy, is reported, providing a cue for discussion of the diagnostic, clinical and pathological pecularities of the tumour in the light of personal experience and the ...

Hamartomas of the hypopharynx are rare. Detailed microscopic study is necessary to differentiate these tumors from the adult-type rhabdomyoma, pleomorphic rhabdomyosarcoma, and granular cell tumor. To our knowledge, our case of a hypopharyngeal rhabdomyomatous hamartoma removed by a lateral pharyngotomy is the only verified hypopharyngeal case in the ...

A definite increase in survival would justify the increased time, cost, and morbidity entailed by combining preoperative or postoperative irradiation with surgery; but regrettably no statistical proof of such a benefit has been forthcoming.

Cross-sectional imaging with CT and MR imaging plays an indispensable complementary role to endoscopy in the pretherapeutic work-up of laryngeal and hypopharyngeal cancer and is very valuable for the detection of tumor recurrence after surgery or radiation treatment as well.

RHABDOMYOSARCOMA OF HYPOPHARYNX
Archives of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, 1956THE PRESENCE of tumors of mesodermal origin in the head and neck is not unusual. However, a rhabdomyosarcoma is unusual if one is to search the literature for case reports. These tumors are few in number and have been reported primarily in the tongue, cheek, palate, tonsil, nose, and nasal septum.

The data in this study suggest that radical surgical treatment offers the best chance for control of disease in patients with cancer of the hypopharynx. The cervical lymph nodes are at a very high risk for early involvement by metastatic disease. Elective treatment of cervical lymph nodes must be considered in initial treatment planning to obtain ...

INVOLVEMENT of the mucous membrane in psoriasis is a most unusual feature of this disease. Though accepted by most leading authorities it has been seen only by a few. Usually it is the buccal mucosa (the cutaneous region of Jadassohn and Schuhmacher), the tongue, the palate and the lips that are involved.

A leiomyosarcoma of the hypopharynx
The Journal of Laryngology & Otology, 1985A fourth case of leiomyosarcoma of the hypopharynx is reported. The histopathological diagnosis and treatment are discussed. Surgery is still the treatment of choice and, in combination with chemotherapy (especially Methotrexate) and radiotherapy, the recurrence rate can be reduced. However, randomized studies are required.

Cancer of the Larynx and Hypopharynx
Hematology/Oncology Clinics of North America, 2021The Radiation Therapy Oncology Group 91-11 trial and US Veterans Affairs trial revolutionized the way locally advanced laryngeal cancers are treated. Adjuvant therapies exist aimed toward laryngeal preservation using docetaxel, cisplatin, and fluorouracil. Cetuximab is a cornerstone of treatment due to the large role of epidermal growth factor receptor
