A remarkable Malformation in the Male Hypopygium of Aëdes (Stegomyia) albopictus, Skuse

The male of which the peculiar hypopygium is shown in fig. 1 was bred from a lot of eggs received in March 1931 from Prof. Snijders (at that time in Medan, Deli, East Coast of Sumatra). Other males which had hatched from the same eggs were examined, but they had a normal hypopygium.

Untersucht wurde die Muskulatur des Hypopygiums bei der Gattung Dolichopus Latreille und die damit im Zusammenhang stehende Bewegungsmöglichkeit des Hypopygiums. Auf Möglichkeiten der Homologisierung der Muskulatur des Hypopygiums zwischen Dolichopus und der Gattung Empis (Empididae) wird hingewiesen.

Die Metamorphose weist eine nahe phylogenetischeVerwandtschaft mit Goeldichironomus au{. Siolim2ia scheint haufig in produktionsreichenstehenden Gewässern der Tropen Amerikas zu sein und hier oft zur Massenentwicklung zukommen.
