Iatrogenic Dysnatremias in Children with Acute Gastroenteritis in High-Income Countries: A Systematic Review

open access: yesFrontiers in Pediatrics, 2017
BackgroundAcute gastroenteritis (AGE) causing dehydration with or without dysnatremias is a common childhood health challenge. While it is accepted that oral rehydration therapy is preferred, clinical factors or parent and healthcare provider preferences

Differences between deep pain responses to hypertonic and hypotonic saline solutions

open access: yes, 1962
Different concentrations of both hypertonic and hypotonic aqueous sodium chloride solutions (0.2 ml) were injected into 24 hypodermic needles inserted in the gluteus medius muscles of 12 human subjects.

Plasma Membrane Ca2+–ATPase in Rat and Human Odontoblasts Mediates Dentin Mineralization

open access: yesBiomolecules, 2021
Intracellular Ca2+ signaling engendered by Ca2+ influx and mobilization in odontoblasts is critical for dentinogenesis induced by multiple stimuli at the dentin surface.

Comparison of the Incidence of Postoperative Hyponatremia after Infusion of Hypotonic Versus Isotonic Intravenous Solutions in Children

open access: yes, 2016
Introduction: Hyponatremia is the most common electrolyte disorder in patients following surgical interventions (19-50%). Hospital acquired hyponatremia is often due to using hypotonic solution s and can be lethal.Materials and Methods:Between January ...

Effect of isotonic and hypotonic fluid therapy on serum sodium: A Randomized Controlled Trial

open access: yesActa Medica Iranica, 2020
There is little consensus about type of the maintenance fluid therapy and it’s effect on serum sodium in adults. Thus, this study was conducted to assess the effect of maintenance fluid therapy on serum sodium of hospitalized patients in intensive care ...

Monitoring Cl− Movement in Single Cells Exposed to Hypotonic Solution [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Membrane Biology, 2005
Self-referencing ion--selective electrodes (ISEs), made with Chloride Ionophore I-Cocktail A (Fluka), were positioned 1-3 microm from human embryonic kidney cells (tsA201a) and used to record chloride flux during a sustained hyposmotic challenge. The ISE response was close to Nernstian when comparing potentials (VN) measured in 100 and 10 mM NaCl ...

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Effect of pH and Hypo-Osmotic Stress on NaCl Electrolyte Permeation across Red Blood Cell Membrane

open access: yesJournal of Applied Sciences and Environmental Management, 2019
The study compares the effects produced by H+ concentrations in hypo-osmotically stressed NaCl solutions on permeation through RBC membrane. Iso-osmotic solutions of NaCl (160 mM) were prepared taking into account their molecular weight and osmotic ...

MITF maintains genome stability in nonmelanocyte lineages

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
MITF is essential for melanocyte survival and acts as an oncogene in 10%–20% of melanomas. We show that MITF depletion causes genome instability in nonmelanocytic cells, leading to LATS2‐mediated P53 activation, cell cycle arrest, and apoptosis. This study highlights the role of MITF as a genome maintenance factor beyond the melanocyte lineage. Created
