Management of refractory hypoxemia
Mechanical ventilation remains the cornerstone in the management of severe acute respiratory failure. Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is the most common cause of respiratory failure. It is associated with substantial mortality, and unmanageable refractory hypoxemia remains the most feared clinical possibility.

Incidence and prognostic significance of hypoxemia in fibrotic interstitial lung disease: an international cohort study. [PDF]
BACKGROUND Hypoxemia is a cardinal feature of fibrotic interstitial lung disease (ILD). The incidence, progression, and prognostic significance of hypoxemia in patients with fibrotic ILD is currently unknown.

Uncommon cause of persistent hypoxia in a patient with obstructive sleep apnea
We report a case of hypothyroidism, obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) with persistent daytime hypoxemia. Cause of hypoxemia was two arteriovenous (AV) malformations in the lower lobe of the lung.

Pulse Oximeter Performance during Rapid Desaturation
The reliability of pulse oximetry is crucial, especially in cases of rapid changes in body oxygenation. In order to evaluate the performance of pulse oximeters during rapidly developing short periods of concurrent hypoxemia and hypercapnia, 13 healthy ...

Hypoxemia Trajectory of Non-COVID-19 Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome Patients. An Observational Study Focusing on Hypoxemia Resolver Status [PDF]
IMPORTANCE: Most studies on acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) group patients by severity based on their initial degree of hypoxemia. However, this grouping has limitations, including inconsistent hypoxemia trajectories and outcomes.

Leukocytosis and Spurious Hypoxemia [PDF]
Abnormally low pO2 and oxygen saturations on arterial blood gases (ABGs) test have been reported in the patients who have very high WBC and platelet counts; generally in the setting of hematological malignancies. This is presumably related to the consumption of oxygen by the active cellular elements in the arterial blood sample during the process of ...
