Cerebral Hemodynamic Changes During Cardiac Surgery: A Feasibility MR Study in Piglets

open access: yesNMR in Biomedicine, Volume 39, Issue 5, May 2026.
Congenital heart disease surgery in infants requires cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB), which increases the risk of brain injury. Conventional heart‐lung machines (HLMs) cannot operate inside MRI scanners, limiting real‐time assessment of cerebral changes. We developed an MR‐conditional HLM and tested it in piglets during CPB.

Improved Respiratory Outcomes Following Multidisciplinary Aerodigestive Care in Medically Complex Children: A Longitudinal Single‐Center Study

open access: yesPediatric Pulmonology, Volume 61, Issue 5, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Introduction Children with medical complexity are at risk of pulmonary injury due to chronic pulmonary aspiration. Our study aimed to determine the effect of multidisciplinary evaluation and periodic follow‐up of aerodigestive disorders on the final status of the respiratory conditions.

Evaluation of Selected Brain Damage Biomarkers in the Determination of Brain Damage in Dogs With Neurological Distemper

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 12, Issue 3, May 2026.
In this study, a significant increase in serum NSE, GFAP, CK‐B, IgM and IgM concentrations was determined in dogs with nervous distemper. It was shown that NSE, GFAP and CK‐B biomarkers have a useful and reliable diagnostic value in determining brain damage in dogs with nervous distemper .

Characterising Forces Applied During the Simulated Management of Impacted Fetal Head: Pre‐Clinical Methods Study

open access: yesBJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics &Gynaecology, Volume 133, Issue 6, Page 1176-1185, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Objective Evaluate whether a sensorised surgical glove can serve as an effective training tool in management of impacted fetal head; and improvements needed. Examine location and amount of force applied through operators' hands during simulated disimpaction. Design Feasibility study.

Neuropathologic findings and age‐related differences in Finnish pediatric medico‐legal autopsies

open access: yesJournal of Forensic Sciences, Volume 71, Issue 3, Page 1246-1254, May 2026.
Abstract Neuropathological examination plays a critical role in medico‐legal cause‐of‐death investigation, especially in determining the cause and manner of death in pediatric autopsies. Although a comprehensive neuropathological examination is recommended, limited data exists of the diagnostic yield of neuropathology consultations in such cases.

Intrapartum CTG characteristics associated with isolated single umbilical artery in term fetuses: A matched case–control study

open access: yesActa Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica, Volume 105, Issue 5, Page 930-939, May 2026.
Fetuses with isolated single umbilical artery (iSUA) were shown to exhibit a higher percentage of late decelerations and shorter decelerations. Fetuses with iSUA show a higher prevalence of overshoots and longer fetal heart reate (FHR) recovery duration.
