Acute and chronic effects of Cr(VI) on Hypsiboas pulchellus embryos and tadpoles [PDF]
In the last few years there has been great concern about declines in the abundance of several species of amphibians around the world. Among amphibians, anurans have a biphasic life cycle, with aquatic tadpoles and generally terrestrial adults, and they have an extremely permeable skin, making them excellent indicators of the health of the environment ...

We describe a new species of Hypsiboas from the slopes and summit of Auyan-tepui in Canaima National Park, Bolivar State, Venezuela. The new species resembles H. sibleszi, but it differs from that species in having pale green dorsal coloration with numerous small chromatophores, dorsolateral white stripes that extend from the tip of snout to the groin ...

Abstract We describe a new species of the Hypsiboas pulchellus Group from the eastern Andes of central Peru (Region Pasco). Calls of both H. melanopleura and the new species are described. The new species is more similar to H. melanopleura and H. palaestes but differs in morphological characters and in coloration pattern.

Geographic variation in the advertisement call of Hypsiboas cordobae (Anura, Hylidae)
Geographic variation in the advertisement call of anuran is commonly observed among conspecific populations. We analyzed the geographic variation of advertisement calls in six populations of the Argentinean treefrog species Hypsiboas cordobae throughout its geographic distribution.

Extended Vocal Repertoire inHypsiboas punctatus(Anura: Hylidae)
Journal of Herpetology, 2015Abstract Male Hypsiboas punctatus emit seven different types of calls: three consist of repeated trains of notes, and four are single-note calls with frequency modulation. Behavioral observations allowed assigning the calls to specific functions: (1) and (2) advertisement calls (short and long duration), (3) territorial signaling, (4) courtship ...

Ecology of Hypsiboas albopunctatus (Anura: Hylidae) in a Neotropical Savanna
Journal of Herpetology, 2011Abstract Although the treefrog Hypsiboas albopunctatus (Spix, 1824) (Anura: Hylidae) is abundant in South America, especially in regions of open vegetation in Brazil, information regarding its natural history is still scarce. This study describes its ecology including aspects of microhabitat use, population dynamics, diet, and reproduction in the ...

Development of eleven polymorphic microsatellite markers for the Chaco Treefrog, Hypsiboas raniceps
Conservation Genetics Resources, 2010We report the characterization of eleven polymorphic microsatellite loci for Hypsiboas raniceps in 20 individuals collected in the northwest of Sao Paulo State, Brazil. The number of alleles per locus, observed heterozygosity and polymorphic information content ranged from 2 to 16, 0.05 to 0.90 and 0.048 to 0.905, respectively.

Calling Behavior and Parasite Intensity in Treefrogs,Hypsiboas prasinus
Journal of Herpetology, 2013Abstract A negative relationship between parasite intensity and male ornament condition or sexual display rate is one of the conditions of the parasite-mediated sexual selection model. In anurans, temporal properties of calling behavior, and particularly calling rates, are the best candidates to express a negative relationship with parasite intensity ...
