Plant density and variety effect on yield, leaf spot disease, weed species richness and diversity of groundnut production in northern Ghana

open access: yesWeed Biology and Management, Volume 24, Issue 2, Page 71-87, June 2024.
Abstract Low plant density and weed infestation are major challenges for groundnut production in northern Ghana. A two‐year on‐farm study was conducted to determine the effect of plant density and variety on grain and fodder yields, incidence of leaf spot disease, weed species diversity and biomass.

The paradox of plant preference: The malaria vectors Anopheles gambiae and Anopheles coluzzii select suboptimal food sources for their survival and reproduction

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 14, Issue 3, March 2024.
This study investigated the plant preferences of females Anopheles gambiae and Anopheles coluzzii, two key malaria vectors in sub‐Saharan Africa. We found a mismatch between their preference for certain plants, such as Combretum indicum, and their actual performance in terms of survival, insemination rate, and sugar intake.

Tillage agriculture and afforestation threaten tropical savanna plant communities across a broad rainfall gradient in India

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 112, Issue 1, Page 98-109, January 2024.
Our study highlights the consequences of land‐use change for native savanna biodiversity across a broad rainfall gradient in tropical India. We document how agricultural conversion and afforestation of old‐growth savannas in India destroy and degrade native herbaceous plant communities that do not spontaneously recover on fallowed land.

Phytotoxicity and Identification of Active Compounds from Elaeocarpus floribundus Blume Plant for Controlling Weeds

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, Volume 2024, Issue 1, 2024.
Phytotoxic compounds isolated and identified from different plants have the ability to use as plant‐based herbicides. Phytotoxic chemicals may be essential to weed management and environmental protection in order to reduce the indiscriminate use of synthetic pesticides.

New Insights on Biosynthesis of Nanoparticles Using Plants Emphasizing the Use of Alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.)

open access: yesJournal of Nanotechnology, Volume 2024, Issue 1, 2024.
Biological synthesis of nanoparticles (NPs) using alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) and other plants has several advantages such as lower costs, reduction of pollution, and improvement of the environment and human health. Often, biosynthesis is used to synthesize Ag, Au, and ZnO NPs. Less often are also synthesized Cu and Fe NPs.
