Urine composition of some hystricomorph rodents confined to metabolism cages

Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part A: Physiology, 1972
Abstract 1. 1. A comparison was made of the composition of urine from six species of hystricomorphs (chinchilla, plains viscacha, degu, cuis, native guinea-pig and domestic guinea-pig) maintained under laboratory conditions. 2. 2. All species produced moderate amounts of hypertonic urine and daily rhythms in water and electrolyte excretion ...

Pulmonary trophoblastic deportation in the hystricomorph rodent Lagostomus maximus

Placenta
Trophoblast has been reported in the lungs of gestating eutherian mammals with hemochorial placenta, including humans, cotton rats, and American hares. This study describes the discovery of trophoblastic-like cells in the lungs of Lagostomus maximus.Lung and placenta samples from non-pregnant and pregnant plains viscachas were analyzed using histology ...

Head myology of wild cavies (Caviidae, Caviomorpha) and functional implications of hystricomorphous and hystricognathous configurations

Journal of Mammalian Evolution, 2023
Cavies are one of the most-specialized grinding rodents, with folivorous and grass-based diets. Antecedents on head myology are focused mainly on domestic guinea pig. Here, we analyze three specimens of wild caviines (two of Cavia aperea and one of Galea leucoblephara), describing, illustrating, mapping, and weighing facial and masticatory muscles ...

Preparation of rhinovirus antisera in the South American hystricomorph rodent, Octodon degus (38507).

Proceedings of the Society for Experimental Biology and Medicine. Society for Experimental Biology and Medicine (New York, N.Y.), 1975
Rhinovirus antisera have been prepared for rhinoviruses (RV) 7,9,26,32,67 and 87 in guinea pigs and in degus. Titers achieved were either similar in the 2 animals (RV7) somewhat higher in the degu (RV9 and RV32) or clearly higher in the degu (RV26, RV67 and RV87). Specificity of the antisera was similar in both animals. In special instances where it is
