Pooled analysis of WHO Surgical Safety Checklist use and mortality after emergency laparotomy

open access: yesBJS (British Journal of Surgery), Volume 106, Issue 2, Page e103-e112, January 2019., 2019
WHO Surgical Safety checklist use in emergency laparotomy was associated with a significantly lower perioperative mortality, yet its use in low‐HDI countries was half that of high‐HDI countries. The greatest absolute gains may be made by focusing patient safety programmes in emergency settings in low‐ and middle‐HDI countries.

Synthesis of Surfactants Derived from 2‐Mercaptobenzimidazole and Study of Their Acute Toxicity and Analgesic and Psychotropic Activities

open access: yesBiochemistry Research International, Volume 2019, Issue 1, 2019., 2019
The aim of the present study is to synthesize cationic salts from a relatively toxic compound named 2‐mercaptobenzimidazole and to evaluate some of their pharmacological properties. The acute toxicity of these salts is evaluated according to OECD 423 Guidelines at the doses of 300 and 2000 mg/kg; their peripheral analgesic effect is studied using the ...

Addressing grand ecological challenges in aquatic ecosystems: how can mesocosms be used to advance solutions?

open access: yesOikos, Volume 2025, Issue 5, May 2025.
Rapid and drastic anthropogenic impacts are affecting global biogeochemical processes and driving biodiversity loss across Earth's ecosystems. In aquatic ecosystems, species distributions are shifting, abundances of many species have declined dramatically, and many are threatened with extinction.

Stationary Interference Cancellation in Upstream Coordinated DSL Using a Turbo‐MMSE Receiver

open access: yesInternational Journal of Digital Multimedia Broadcasting, Volume 2008, Issue 1, 2008., 2008
We investigate the scenario of an upstream coordinated DSL transmission in presence of spatial‐correlated noise. Joint signal processing helps mitigate this noise and reduce internal interference effects between coordinated users. We propose to couple noise whitening with a mean‐squared error iterative receiver in order to approach the matched filter ...

The Effect of 50 Hz electromagnetic field on Helicobacter pylori

open access: yes, 2013
We aimed to determine the impact of 50 Hz, 3 mT electromagnetic field (EMF) on the growth of Helicobacter pylori and the changes in morphology, survival and viability after exposure in both 20 and 120 min of in vitro experiments. The bacterial suspension

Adaptive learning anomaly detection and classification model for cyber and physical threats in industrial control systems

open access: yesIET Cyber-Physical Systems: Theory &Applications, Volume 10, Issue 1, January/December 2025.
A surge of digital technologies adopted into industrial control systems exposes critical infrastructures to increasingly hostile and well‐organised cybercrime. Because of the range of critical services that ICS provide, disruptions to operations could have devastating consequences making ICS an attractive target for sophisticated threat actors.

Visco‐Elastic Parameters at Three‐Dimensional MR Elastography for Diagnosing Non‐Alcoholic Steatohepatitis and Substantial Fibrosis in Mice

open access: yesJournal of Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Volume 59, Issue 1, Page 97-107, January 2024.
Background Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is increasing worldwide and is a growing cause of liver cirrhosis and cancer. The performance of the magnetic resonance elastography (MRE) visco‐elastic parameters in diagnosing progressive forms of NAFLD, including nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) and substantial fibrosis (F ≥ 2), needs to be ...
