Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Characterization and Antimicrobial Susceptibility Patterns of Enterococcus Species Isolated from Nosocomial Infections in a Saudi Tertiary Care Hospital over a Ten-Year Period (2012–2021)

open access: yesDiagnostics
Introduction: The Enterococcus genus is a common cause of nosocomial infections, with vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE) posing a significant treatment challenge.

Search for variable stars in the young open cluster Stock 18

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2017
We have carried out multi-epoch deep I band photometry of the open cluster Stock 18 to search for variable stars in star forming regions. In the present study, we report identification of 28 periodic and 165 non-periodic variables stars.

Investigation of Age Gelation in UHT Milk

open access: yesBeverages, 2018
Milk samples with twelve combinations of κ- and β-casein (CN) and β-lactoglobulin (β-Lg) variants were obtained to investigate the effect of protein variant on the mechanism/s of age gelation in ultra-high temperature (UHT) skim milk.

Influence of Varying Dietary ω6 to ω3 Fatty Acid Ratios on the Hepatic Transcriptome, and Association with Phenotypic Traits (Growth, Somatic Indices, and Tissue Lipid Composition), in Atlantic Salmon (Salmo salar)

open access: yesBiology, 2021
The importance of dietary omega-6 to omega-3 (ω6:ω3) fatty acid (FA) ratios for human health has been extensively examined. However, its impact on fish physiology, and the underlying molecular mechanisms, are less well understood. This study investigated

Patient‐specific pharmacogenomics demonstrates xCT as predictive therapeutic target in colon cancer with possible implications in tumor connectivity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study integrates transcriptomic profiling of matched tumor and healthy tissues from 32 colorectal cancer patients with functional validation in patient‐derived organoids, revealing dysregulated metabolic programs driven by overexpressed xCT (SLC7A11) and SLC3A2, identifying an oncogenic cystine/glutamate transporter signature linked to ...

The Role of Final State Interactions in Quasielastic $^{56}$Fe$(e,e')$ Reactions at large $|\vec q|$

open access: yes, 1994
A relativistic finite nucleus calculation using a Dirac optical potential is used to investigate the importance of final state interactions [FSI] at large momentum transfers in inclusive quasielastic electronuclear reactions.

The decay $$B\rightarrow K+\nu +\bar{\nu }$$ B → K + ν + ν ¯ at Belle II and a massless bino in R-parity-violating supersymmetry

open access: yesEuropean Physical Journal C: Particles and Fields
Recently, Belle II announced evidence for the decay $$B^+\rightarrow K^+ +\nu +\bar{\nu }$$ B + → K + + ν + ν ¯ at the $$3.5\,\sigma $$ 3.5 σ significance, and measured the corresponding decay branching ratio to be $$2.7\,\sigma $$ 2.7 σ above the ...

CDK11 inhibition induces cytoplasmic p21WAF1 splice variant by p53 stabilisation and SF3B1 inactivation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
CDK11 inhibition stabilises the tumour suppressor p53 and triggers the production of an alternative p21WAF1 splice variant p21L, through the inactivation of the spliceosomal protein SF3B1. Unlike the canonical p21WAF1 protein, p21L is localised in the cytoplasm and has reduced cell cycle‐blocking activity.

The branching structure of diffusion-limited aggregates

open access: yes, 1997
I analyze the topological structures generated by diffusion-limited aggregation (DLA), using the recently developed "branched growth model". The computed bifurcation number B for DLA in two dimensions is B ~ 4.9, in good agreement with the numerically ...
